Finally, the BL has arrived and the build has begun. I just got two fresh new sheets of 3/4" mdf and have already got a few pieces cut. The build will take around 3 days i estimate...so expect lots of pics:)
here are the initial few pictures. i am done for the night, but i will continue right after school tommarow.

i would have updated more often...but ive been too busy working on it lol
i estimate i put in a solid 5 hours today..well total 7 but between that i was either eating, talking with friends, or at the store where i saw a guy steal a bike. lol i was like to my buddy " ***** stole my ninja!" sorry if that offends anyone haha but it was classic. basically, we didnt know he stole it at the time. we saw him ride by on the way into the store, he was just giviner with no helmet or riding clothes and some really gangster clothes on. anyhow when we got out of the store there was abunch of cops patrolling and questioning this one guy at a store(i assume the owner). too bad we didnt get a pic of the guy... good times lol
anyhow, onto the pics

It dont matter as long as he doesnt have cancellation...if you do, seal off the trunk as much as possible.

mikey060
05-10-2007, 04:40 PM
sub forward, in my car, is louder. they loudest position is diagonally towards the back left...but i couldnt fit a box that way. so this will have to do

hah yea i will defiantly get a few vids up asap

and thank you, i appreciate it. :) all those hours testing/building models/mock boxes etc was well worth it. this box went together, to my supprise, very easily. it fit like a glove and i dont even need to screw it down it is so snug. i figure i took about 15 hours to do the whole build, which is not too bad i suppose. of course, i wasnt just building the whole time..

and yea i was thinking of just walling it..but everyone does that. however not everyone has an 18 in their trunk lol. it looks really cool when the sun hits the mirror just right and all i see is the FI symbol :greedy:

you wont be able to see the flex, ive been told, be people that know a lot more than me, that even the smallest amount of flex (1 or 2 mm) destroys sq and spl potential, they even said to brace a 1 cube box of 1 inch mdf, which seemed stupid to me, but you have gone to a lot of trouble to build that box, i say you may as well get every last drop out of it, when you get a couple hours, take the sub out and glue and screw some serious braces in there. imma say it will improve sq a lot and give you maybe an extra 2 db?

you dont have to,

but why not?:suicide:

2 x 4s' and glue are cheap.:)

lol well my second run doing bass race, first one i didnt have a remote so it ******...but anyways i did a 139.8/139.9 for the whole run....im going to brace the box soon, and should be doing a consistant 139.9. my peak spl is not impressive, but on music at around 36hz im at 140+...so my goal of having a loud bass race system was acheived. by no means did i expect to pull a high number via burping. no vids yet...once i do some modifications to the box i will get a video up of my runs

i took the top off today. since i glued it i didnt want to tear it all off, so i just took a jig saw 12" deep from the back. then when i got inside i found why its sounded ****** the past few days. as you will see in pic 2, the screw and glue holdign the port on broke free and has been loose. so i glued it up, fired more screws in it, and now its solid.

lol i got the idea from mazdakid a while back. it really helps reduce panel flex behind the box and it doesnt rattle nearly as much. it almost completely seals of the cabin from the back half of the trunk. i havent got it metered yet after putting all the blankets and **** in but i imagine in will be louder thant it was:)
