Alright, well here's the situation.

Car is a Lexus ES300. Seats don't fold down, have a metal plate behind them, and are very thick leather (i.e. hard to get bass into cabin)

Subwoofers are 2 12" Pioneer Premier 3004SPL's running off a Hifonics 1606D.

As soon as school ends I want to put together a box that will really do these subs justice in a difficult car like mine. I have thought of two options that should get it loud, want to see which you guys would consider better or if you have any more ideas.

#1-After not being happy with the SPL, I tore apart back seat and started pulling some things blocking my way to back (small plastic pieces, metal, etc) to allow more bass to travel through. Upon doing so I created an actual opening from trunk to the car where the armrest folds down. I'd say it is around 10" tall and 6" wide. Option 1 would involve somehow porting it through this hole.

#2-I can always port through the speakers on the rear deck. Create two round ports that fire through my soon to be removed rear speakers. Would actually prefer #1 to sve my backseat passengers, but if this would make it alot louder, screw them.

Also, for these subs what would be your ideal size/tuning for them? Remember it's in a lexus trunk, so cant be something like 5 cubes.

number 1 and 2....

do a 6th order bandpass enclosure... one chamber firing through the rear seat, the other firing through the rear deck :)

don't be phased by that... even though its 3004SPL or 3002SPL... there really isn't very much of it... but they sound good.. :D

umm... they are reasonable for SPL... and if they sound anything like the 306C model, then they aren't that great for SQ either...

well, the 306C are GREAT for SPL for the price... so, I guess that means the 3004's must be EXCELLENT for SPL?

 :eyebrow:   :eyebrow:

Ok, to fix this ill edit something

I wasnt happy with how loud the subs were, mainly because I felt alot of bass was getting trapped in the trunk.

Yea, thats where option 1 is. Originally it wasnt there, but I removed a metal piece and some plastic to make it an actual opening.

thats probably what i'd do. just build the port(s) in the center

Are you using the rear speakers? If not, take them out, I gained a lot of volume when I took mine out.

Just routing the port through the rear deck won't do you much good except around tuning. It would work if you did a 4th or 6th order bandpass though.

uhhh that's definitely not true. my single 3002 is pretttttyyy loud it'll do a 138.x

but to the thread starter, a pair of 4" Aeroports @ 38hz... you'll be reallly really happy

I agree with the 4" aeroports, but you really think I should tune it so high? im also gonna shoot for 5 cubes if it fits.

Assuming I have a little more room what would you think about 4.5-5.0 cubic feet?

my new box is actually designed @ 38hz, but these subs play low no problem, tune higher and you'll love it
