Here are pics of my install. SLC 265 currently on MTX Thunder 564 but only two channels work, so they'll be running off an MTX Thunder 502 as soon as I return the 4 channel to seller. Sounds very crisp and clean. I only have the driver's side installed right now...the angled spacer was a ***** to make. Thanks to Premier Audio for the speaks...only problem was the scuffs on the x overs from shipment but they're going behind the door panel anyway.

Notice I used an erector set piece to secure the tweeter, I don't what I would do without that handy kit

Looks nice. Wish I could fit tweeters in my sail panel.

What kind of car is that?

I'm really glad I could position the tweet in the sail panel...I think it looks really clean and sounds good

It does look clean.

I'd like to know what kind of soundstage you have once you install the other side, height and width, etc, with that tweeter positioning.

You did a great job! Where are the scuff marks on the crossover?

I love clean installs :yumyum: If you want, you can paint the MDF adapter with oil-based paint/stainer so that it won't get f*cked due to moisture.

Looks nice but where's the deadner? u need to hop on that fast. i finished my passanger door and most of trunk, all i need now is driver door then im oprdering slc's from premier. LMK how they sound. reviews ftw!!! and im also interested about your soundstage with tweet location.

It is from the frame for the grill rubbing against it in the box

That's a good idea...

The deadener is going on today...I just wanted to hook one up yesterday to hear how they sound.

Here are pics of the complete install, all that's left to do is sound dampener, which I am doing in two weeks when finals are over. Thanks again to Premier Audio, I couldn't be happier with my selection...I wish I could say the same for my amp...some mother f'er on ebay sold me a 4-channel with only 3 working channels. Now I am going to get a MTX 502 for the Rainbows and use my MTX 4250D on whatever light substage I decide to get. Here are a few more pics...and a video, which is pointless I know, but I just felt like posting it...its without the rear fills because of the broken amp but it sounds great nonetheless

daym that song sounded cool, but I'm not sure about the quality of the sound.

what made you go with rainbows?

dkmesa
04-19-2007, 02:04 AM
The quality is just from the ****** microphone on my digital camera...the speakers are perfectly clear.

Rainbows have a very good reputation and a couple forum members are authorized members that sell for a good price :D

How about when the volume is down, do you still hear all the "detail"?

And do they sound warm and natural?

Might I suggest some clay or foam tape on the top & bottom of that baffle?

It will help clean up the midbass. ;)

Yeah, when I deaden the doors, I plan to stuff foam behind them...I hadn't thought about using clay, thanks for the suggestion

Honestly no way to tell. It really depends on how much midbass you expect to get out of them.

If you want tons of midbass *depending on the car* the door will rattle pretty badly. Deadener is used to weigh down the panels (among other things) so that the woofer has little chance of vibrating the panel it's bolted to. If you can let the midbass go, and just ordered some closed cell foam like ensolite or damplifier you'd be alright. You can add a small amount of deadener & foam to the area behind the speaker and that will give you a little bit better response.

You just have to have realistic expectations.

Just to make sure we're on the same track...

I assume, by "foam" you mean closed-cell?

That's not the same function as the clay. The clay goes between the speaker and the baffle, in addition to between the baffle and the door. It acts as a decoupler. Think of it as softening the blow of the speaker if you will. It gives more "cushion for the pushin'" lol. In essence it absorbs some of the impact which causes extra vibration in the panel and allows for better midbass output.

I'll let you know how much of a difference the deadener makes and that will help you judge

yep, closed-cell.

Oh, I've seen that done before...I may try it out

I dampened the doors and I'm now powering them with 125 watts each from an MTX 502 as opposed to the 70 watts from the MTX 564...they really came alive...awesome midbass, very crisp and loud. My ID10 will be coming next week to complete my system.

You can kind of get an idea of the midbass from the distortion in this video...its pretty impressive IMO, the 55 watt gain from 70 to 125 made all the difference

great work, I bet that sounds great...what kind of clay did you use to seal the woofers? Did you have it installed with out the clay at one point to compare the improvement in the midbass?

I got some SLCs as well except I have 3ways. Very nice install and the midbass is better than I thought lol

I still got to build door pods and another tweeter pod and fix my other tweeter pod......

Its hard to build and drive daily, I hate having to drive around in a disassembled truck

unfort, I did the install at one time, so I could only tell the difference from stock to these, eh yea wow! lol but I am running of the stock HU, still sounds great nonetheless,

but the clay is like 4 bucks at walmart, keywords, non-hardening clay, found in the arts/crap section Craft*

dkmesa will do :) its just running hertz comps off a kenwood hu at the moment :(

the standard clarion speakers had disintegrated and i was going on a long trip so decided to whack in the hertz and made some quickie mdg baffles :) sounds ok - no midbass but better than the clarions!!

x2 (again) on the clay. It'll make a noticeable difference.

From the pictures it's hard to tell, but I believe Nexson used clay between the mdf ring and the sheet metal, in addition to between the mdf & speaker.

I would suggest doing the same. You don't need a TON of it. You just need to make sure that there's enough to act as an additional "spacer" (for a lack of better words) between all interfaces.

My Wallyworld is totally worthless! They don't carry that Scosche sound deadening, or the non-hardening clay, or even that eggcrate foam (neither does anyone else in this town)... :(
