Any ideas? Looking for a 4 ohm 6.5 inch mid that would match with the xt25. Tried to get the polymids but the website is down.

Any particular reason why? You're severely limiting yourself. The above mentioned are some great speakers for the money.

Because wouldn't a 8ohm speaker withdraw less power from my amp than a 4 ohm speaker?

word has it that the site is about 2 hours from being back online. The polys and XT25s are a good set.

The XT25's can easily extend down to match with the Dayton RS's...

Dayton's to ~1.6kHz and XT25's pick up ~2kHz

I'm on my phone so just one browser window haha... Finding the link would take some time. www.diymobileaudio.com/forum - go to tutorials - look for the thread by npdang about the rationalle why it's just fine to use 8 ohm drivers in a automotive install. Don't forget your amp will play cleaner at the higher impedence.

From what I've heard that woofer lacks midbass. Last I heard the Poly mid is discontinued. Here read this site:

the xt 25 technically "can" play down to 2k but i wouldn't do it... it started crapping out pretty quickly after passing the 3k mark. Also i would go for the seas p18rnx, they can play really high and will be a good match for the tweet.

You're dealing with a smaller format tweeter. Lower-end woofers will not likely play cleanly high enough to mate with that tweeter. Cheaper softer cones (paper, plastic) will start to roll off too early. Many metal cones will have an early break-up point and get super-nasty above that point. Invest in a decent midwoofer or you will have to replace the XT25 with a large-format tweeter that has a 4" faceplate

I own the Dayton Alums. They definitely play much higher than many 7" mids, but not cleanly. They don't have a nasty breakup like the RS180s, possibly due to the fabric dustcap. Detail was on par with my RE Audio poly cone 6.5s. I'm personally going to pick up a set of the Seas CA18RNX woofers. From what I've read they have solid midbass, extended midrange, and midrange detail that won't get harsh like a metal cone.

so that narrows down the choices.

Peerless HDS Nomex 7" gets my vote.

Nomex cone, cast basket, great low end, excellent midrange, natural roll off somewhere around 4k (mine are crossed at 3.15 though), yes they are 8ohm drivers, but they easily outperform the type X 6.5s they replaced, no questions about it.

decided to stick with my matrix elites. It sounds pretty good in my opinion.

Ouch, i couldnt listen to those that low-very grainy. I'd opt for the larger driver to play more of the critical midrange in a 2way. Unless both drivers were side by side in array buried deep in the kicks and some eq work. They wouldnt like high volumes very much, neither would the listener.
