Looking to get an alarm for my contour (totally new to the alarm scene btw)...it has manual windows and locks however. I don't know if I could get remote start on it but that would be sweet. What companies should I be looking at? I skimmed Viper's site but that's it.

Budget is somewhere around 300$
Thanks

I really don't want to install this myself, it seems like a good alarm should be put in by a pro (i.e. not me)

LOL trust bro its not bad of an install. if u can read and under stand the manual then u should be str8. unless u have a dumb gm car. might need to do relay work and diode bullsh!it

i know basic electronics, relays and diodes are easy...

and my car is easy to work on, I'm just worried about screwing something up

whats the worst that can happen. remote start is simple cut ur starter wire and wire ur relays up to the right ends.

I'm actually planning on asking for an alarm for my b-day so what's the cheapest I can get?

300 was just a guess but looks like I could get a nice one for 200?

So I've been looking around and some stuff that I would like in an alarm is:

door sensors
voltage watch thing (like if dome light or trunk light come on)
shock sensors
possible a glass break sensor
multiple outputs for multiple sirens
fuel pump cut off (i have a button that i have to push before i start the car which is a fuel cut off - maybe i could just use that or something?)

optional things:
trunk release (i have a manual trunk but i found a 20$ kit to be used with an alarm relaser)
remote start

I sell viper and Compustar, both are solid units. Personally I used the viper 5900SST in my car. I like it better than the Compustars. As far as install goes, your car is not hard IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING. You need to be able to corectly identify wires using a DMM and if your not comfortable doing that than pay a pro, no shame in that. An alarm is only as good as the install. A basic install is gonna include a shock sensor and door pins. Some places will include a hood pin or starter kill. If its a Remote start and alarm than they better include a hood pin or the install is unsafe. As for your other options you listed, you dont need to do them all at once if money is an issue, just make sure you inform the person doing the install that you will be adding on later so they dont remove wires that are nessasary or cut them unnesasaily short

I can do it if it's not difficult. I have installed everything I have so far. But what kind of price range am I looking at?

why do you say that? I heard the 5900 sst has some issues. Have you seen the pro stuff?

Yo you know what you can do? You can get a one way compustar alarm start prolly for the price your looking for. And later down the road you can upgrade to a two way anytime. All you have to do is get a antenna and remote and your good to go.
