Well... Yeah, Im not sure what i wanna do right now.

I want a new deck thats for sure. Im looking at either the Pioneer Preimer DEH-880PRS or the Eclipse CD5000.

I definately like that both have an internal xover. I know the Pioneer has a 3 way, but im not sure wether the Eclipse is a 2, 3, or 4 way.

Which would you pick? Im looking for a combination of quality, features, durability, skip-resistance, and value.

Heres the HUs.

When it comes to those, which would you pick?

Says on the site for the Eclipse:
Advanced 2-mode Sound Control DSP

* Parametric EQ
* 11-band (3-way speaker system) or 7-band (4 speaker plus subwoofer system) EQ

I just got rid of my Premier 780 and recently installed an eclipse CD7000 in its place.....Eclipse all the way, the pioneer is so picky with CDs, if you have one scratch on it it wont play it.

Ok, lets put looks and fancy crap aside. I would have to say the Eclipse hands down for the quality of the deck, quality of the sound and all around adjustability.
The onboard EQ and time alignment alone are worth it.

Well im not going for monster sq... Im going to be running a bunch of Eminence 6.5s, 8s, and tweeters. So things such as time alignment arent that important to me.

Im just wondering what the all around better deck is.

Should i just wait and get the AVIC-D3?

Might as well get a sony unit from walmart for $80, won't hear a difference between any of the decks with those speakers.

But, if you must.I'd go eclipse, that little almost navigation thing sounds cool.

I was in this situation last week. I ordered the eclipse then ended up canceling it because it has no detachable face(something I need). Went with the 880 instead. I'd be all for the eclipse if it had a detachable face.

car alarm/better parking spots/tint/not blasting my stereo in the city are all better than compromising a better performing head unit IMO...... but in the end it is what YOU like... but since this was a thread asking for advice/opinions, i will stick to my guns... Eclipse :D

I have an Alpine 9813 and would like to upgrade. Im looking for a head unit that is ipod ready, something i dont need an adapter or anything for. Will the eclipse do this?

Your running pro audio equipment in your car, and im the jackass. hmm.... Im just agreeing with mountain man. He had a valid point.

Its a pro audio speaker. And? It has a voice coil, a cone, a magnet, a surround, and a spyder just like any other speaker out there.

Its built to be used in mainly applications other than cars. Whats your point? Im looking for something to be very loud, not sonic bliss.

Screw it, I think im just going to get the AVIC-D3.

The 5100 does have a detachable face but loses the 8v preouts this year i believe.

You know it a funny thing. Pioneer head units look damm good. My X-990 Excelon with the way you can change display modes is simply beautiful. That Eclipse 5000 anyway you look at it is just ugly. However, it is a fabulous deck. If you could only put a towl over it. LOL If you can get past the looks, that Eclipse is a winner.

You know a funny thing, drugs can make you forget that you have already done stuff... eclipse is the winner... in my case at least. Have one sittin right here in the box waitin to be isntalled... but no no no the alarm comes first... thats sittin under the eclipse cd5000... get the cd5000 for a couple reasons ... a it isnt ugly b. its dirt cheap on ebay and finally because you wont find a head unit near the quality for the money....

Sounds like installer error to me. I've owned many Pioneers in my days and have never had a problem with skipping.

I voted the 880 because it has more tuning flexibility and the time alignment is WAY more flexible on the 880. The CD7000 is a much closer comparison to the 880. The 5000 doesn't really compare to the 880.

Very wise decision. One you won't regret.

A. Paint it any color you like, it's ******* hideous. Like a bilboard with all that screen printing all over it.

B. It may be cheap, I've never looked at the price because I couldn't get past the looks.

C. The 880 is higher quality and goes just as cheap as that atrocious head unit.

I will assume this was a sarcastic laugh in disaproval of what I said. I have used multiple Pioneer units as well as multiple Eclipse units. And as for no frills performance and quality, Eclipse, IMO has the edge. I don't see the need to put a 2 page disclaimer on every recomendation post simply to cover my *** for someone getting butt hurt because they're personal experience(the only grounds a recomendation or review should be based on btw), or their personal preference does not agree with mine. And further more, you make 3 different posts about why you like Pioneer better than Eclipse... each and every one is 100% revolved around the looks of the unit. Every post I have made on the subject has been based on build quality, performance and value..oh yeah, and my reviews and recomendations are based on personal EXPERIENCE. Do not discredit what I say because you think the unit I am recomending is "ugly"

No. Not quite. I also posted talking about how the 880 outperforms the 5000. In fact, I also said that the 7000 vs 880 was a more fair comparison. I'm not trying to say Pioneer is better than Eclipse. I'm saying THIS Pioneer is above and beyond THIS particular Eclipse. The 880 > 5000. The 880 is on par or better with the 7000 for half the price.

Its a NO brainer. The 880 is a much, much better bang for the buck and over all better head unit.

Again, not even a fair comparison.

Ive owned many pioneer and eclipse units myself and 2 out of the 3 pioneers all had skipping problems, Both were high end premiers (780 and 960), the one that didnt have skipping problems was a low end 3500 pioneer. hm? Every eclipse ive owned was and still is 10x better then most of the pioneers put out today (3422, 8062, 50440, 5432, and now cd7000)
I guess im more of an old school, less is more type of person, all the bells and wistles on the pioneers could never have made up for the ****** quality compared to other decks ive used.

I stand corrected then. And I can agree with the one point that you made about comparing 2 different procuts on 2 different levels. Same as that other thread in here comparing a decently high level Pioneer to Nakamichi's lowest model.. Sure I can buy a bare bones Lexus RX300 for a similar price as a fully loaded Yukon and have that "luxury car name" under my ***, but why? when i can get more out of the Yukon and have a decently reliable product, just lacking an "oo and ah" name.... Fair comparison to this thread?

Like has been mentioned before, if you only need a cd player then get the cheepest (I assume it is the eclipse one).

But comparing xovers, TA and EQ, the 880 wins hands down.

For something in the middle, look at the JVC KD-SH1000, it's in the middle in terms of tunability but has the added feature of USB and SD card. Can be had pretty cheep to on cardomain.com
