Is it absolutely necessary to have a thickness of 1" for the front baffle? this is the recommended spec from jl audio for a 10w7. i ordered a sealed box but the front baffle is only 3/4". will i be ok?

The issue is how well the wood will hold the screws used to mount the driver. The W7 is a tubby *****. As such thicker is better for holding the sub in place.

Using 10/32" tee-nuts and machine screws instead of wood screws into the MDF could help...

just be careful when you screw the sub to the box, get the screws right first time. dont be pulling the screws in and out 10 times and makeing the holes too big. 3/4 mdf will hold that sub for years,

IF THE SREWS ARE INSERTED CORRECTLY.
