What are my options? I just want something with a strong midbass as I listen to a lot of rock, and I like my tweeters nice and mellow. For my back 6x9s I plan on just putting in some nice coaxials or something, maybe some cheap mids.

My wife ordered these for me for Christmas from Woofers. They were out of stock at the time so they gave me a free upgrade to the ES-620's with the black cones.I haven't had time to put them in my truck yet but I have them in a set of two way cabinets that I use to test out new comps. They are running off of a 100 wpc Vector Research home receiver in my garage to break in untill they go in my truck. They have excellent sound. Some of the best midrange I have heard(I have M B Quart QSD 216's in my truck now with 150 wpc). They are excellent for voice and most instruments. But notice I said midrange not midbass. They would be great with a sub and deadened doors would probably add to the midbass but for real low midbass you would want a dedicated midbass driver or sub. These are as good as comps that cost twice as much or more.A great deal for $300.00.I am wanting to by another set to have for that price.;)

i have heard those ES series spakers and they are breath takingly nice. the midrange is very full and detailed, the mdbass is outstanding and the tweeters are silk dome so they are smooth. :yumyum: i would go for it

Go with MB Quart if $300 is your price range and you are looking for a great front stage component set-up.

I've heard that the HD series from CDT produces the best midbass, can anyone attest to that? Or are the ES comps going to be my best bet? And I think I'm going to go with something CDT, as my local shop carries them and I can get a deal on them. Also, what amp(s) would you guys recommend for those speakers?

Forgot to mention, when you said you like your tweeters nice & mellow, there is a tweeter attenuator switch so you can set them where you like them. Also, the woofer magnet is neodynium. Mounting depth, and size is reduced while keeping the bass respose at an excellent level.

lol well if you went by that my soundstreams have tweeter and woofer attenuators. heh but they don't make these comp sets any more so not really feasable to suggest them.

- That's what I was thinking... but those CDT's in the link above look slightly better.

The Pioneer's are good speakers but can not in anyway be compared to the Eurosport comps as far as sound quality.

Forget the CDT ES series unless its the ES-06, ES-06+.. heh.. Get a set with the M6 or put it together yourself and pick out a tweeter and crossover.

Something like an M6 set, DRT-25 tweets, and a 480/560 crossover.

I have to disagree with you. I think the PRS720 > Eurosport by a mile.

And you have heard both? The 720 sound great but the sound quality, midbass and power handling are much better on the ES's

no way dude. cannot comment on the imaging but i have heard both inside of cars that had well done installs. the ES's sound good but the midbass is really weak. that is one thing about the ES's that I noticed automatically. the midbass out of the 720prs is incredibly powerful. im not saying its the best out there, but the midbass on the 720prs is as strong as anything else i have heard. now i know it all comes down to opinion but now im having a hard time believing that you actually heard the 720prs before. i would think its a general consensus that the ES's are geared more towards smooth midbass rather than powerful. the highs, sound imaging and overall SQ may be subjective, but the ES's midbass doesnt even come close to the 720prs.

if i were you i'd build my own from CDTs.
tw-25 tweeters or better
560i xovers
m6 woofers
deaden the doors and find a amp that will push 175rms@4x2.

i happen to have two 560i xover for sale...

Actually, I think I'm going with the 720PRS. It'll just be easier, and I'm getting these as a graduation present.

i'm going to have to disagree as well. the cdt's are nice but the prs are are more sturdy, and better designed. The cdt eurosport set is based on vifa mg line. CDT mark up their stuff soooo much. You can get the top of the line eurosport 3 way component system for less than $250 if you buy the raw speakers. they are good for what they are but are nothing spectacular.

With $300 you should spend about half on deadening.
