i say

ArcAudio 2500-XXK 270x2 @4 ohms
or
Zapco 750.2 150x2 @4 ohms
or
Focal FP2.150
or
Mmats SQ-2175

in my opinion, if you spend $450+ on speakers get some quality amp $450+
Amps with
High S/N Ratio
Low Distortion
High Efficiency
among other stuff

2nd'd blackmaxima's sentiments...i would add the arc audio 4150xxk to that list - you can bridge it to 320x2, or bi-amp those germanium's passive's @ 4x75w... or go active later on that same power. I love my 4150 to death. My previous amp was an Eclipse EA3422 (very clean sound) which was rated by them @ 2x140 but i suspect was more like 2x120...i wasn't happy with it though it did sound good, didn't quite have the power to push the woofers to the volumes i wanted - though the tweets get plenty loud on less than that of course ;).

the 4150xxk is another good amp, you have the option to bi-amp 4x80w or 160x2 @4 ohms i think. not sure. too lazy to check the arc website lol

They're okay, but I think there are better speakers out there.

So I ran into some issues involving depth and what not, so I'm relocating my speakers. Time to whip out the fiberglass, should be a fun project. Picking up resin and cloth today... funnn

I am pretty confident that I know exactly what speakers that you are referring to, and I think think that they are okay, but there are better speakers out there.

So, my yet to be named speakers > your yet to be named speakers

whats the smallest airspace these things can be in?

I ask because ...should I be getting barely any midbass... I feel as tho something is wrong. I have a 8445 for a cd deck and im running these off my friend's boss595... i know im running these things on a terrible amp, waiting on a sundown or arc....

I just posted some info in this germ thread (http://www.caraudio.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9) over in the amp section.

Like I mentioned there, I am getting some great midbass (kicks are awesome) with a mostly sealed door. I would think that being basically an IB setup, the more volume the woofer are in the better. Also, go for 150+ watts, as the 75-90 just don't seem to do these comps any justice. This week, I am going to mess around with biamping and play with crossover points some. Might even get bored and try running them active to see how they compare.

Need to spend my limited time getting the sub reinstalled, but will post some of my results, and will get some pics up of the install this week hopefully.

If you are looking at the arc's, seriously consider looking at the Zed deuces (zedaudio.com). Can't tell you how pleased I am with the pairing of the zed w/burr brown and the germs. Though, I hear a lot of great things about sundown, and of course arcs are top of the line.

thanks for the lengthy response! But even if they were designed for an infinite baffle setup, shouldn't the small sealed pod box have them producing some midbass?

leave an opening on the back of your pod so that it will run ib. They will still give a lot of mid bass. Did you find an amp yet? I have a Arc XXK-2500 I may be willing to part with.

FullCircle

First (and most obviously) make sure that you don't have the amp high crossed. Second - there is definitely some break-in time on the comps, but I will admit that I did notice some midbass right up front.

I am guessing that if it's in a small sealed box, you are just seeing too much acoustic suspension to allow any excursion. You might try pulling the driver out of the box, and driving it on a small amount of watts low-passed and see if it moves at all. I would also be willing to bet the amp is overrated by quite a bit and the set isn't getting enough power. Have you tested the amp with a DMM on a 1k sine-wave? Tried a 100 hz test tone?

Just throwing ideas out there, it's tough to tell what's going on without seeing it or knowing exactly what you mean by small. Mostly though, if the small boxes are fully sealed there is going to be a lot of compression-damping going on, the power handling of the mid is going to go up substantially and it's going to require more watts to get that low end movement going (which could be too much for the tweets so just be careful).

thanks for the quick repsonse, i'll try a few things... If I leave a hole in the back of the pod, then i gotta cut threw my door panel make it IB, but I could try porting the pod, but then I go into tuning issues, right?
