View Full Version : Just finished SLC Hybrid setup!

So I had been running my SLC's in stock form for about 2 months now. Loved the midbass, felt the tweet left a little to be desired when setup off axis. Sunday I purchased a set of CAL25 fabric tweets + crossovers from the X-plain line (Thanks Don!).

Last night after I picked them up decided to throw them in. First impression was WOW the change in depth is amazing. I noticed it right away and the tweets aren't even broken in yet mind you. These play MUCH better off axis and so far have provided me a much smoother transition and cleaner sound. What also blew me away is that these tweets are MUCH louder at lower volumes vs the CAL2045's. They are VERY efficient. I didn't change the gain on my amp at all and noticed all these differences. I feel as though the tweets can now hang with the midbass with ease(They probably outshine them, though the SLC midbass is pretty nice at that specific price point).

The crossover point also changed from 3800hz in the slc line to 3200 with the xplain crossover, seems like this assisted in bringing the front stage up to near eye level. I believe I may need to turn the level to soft within the crossover unless they warm up once they are broken in. Overall I am super pleased with the transaction as well as the change in sound quality. I will follow up more once they are burned in. Right now I'm very very content :D

Btw they are comps are being ran off the front channels of my 4150xxk.

Why not just remount the original more on axis if that was your problem?

I wanted a more robust tweeter anyways :)

You make me want to pick up the CMX 265s now rather than the SLCs :p:

Nice to see you got the new "sparkle"........:)

I like the paper cones quite a bit and more than happy with the midbass output from them. The tweets just truelly take care of the depth and allow for a MUCH more robust sound.... These suckers get LOUD!

I am curious to know what you have in your sig?

Sig = 2 8" assassins mounted on the rear deck (no longer there). 12" DLS SP12 in a ported box (For sale, no longer in the car)

Good, I was really hoping you didn't have them both at the same time. ;)

Don FTW...I bet you got them for a killer deal. I saw the convo in the GD thread on maxima.org :D

Hehehe u know it.

Good, I was really hoping you didn't have them both at the same time. ;)

I had them all installed at the same time, but I only used either the 8's or the 12. If I needed my trunk space I took out the 12, if not I left'er connected.

I love my cal25's :) Running mine @ 2.6khz/12db. They do warm up some as they break in - when i first put mine in they were much brighter than they ended up being after breaking in. You say you're pushing both the tw and the woofers off of just the front channels of your 4150xxk? Maybe i'm a little excessive :( (my germs are running bridged @ 320x2 lol)

Yup just off the front channels, it gets ear splitting loud. I don't need anything more than what I have.
