I'm looking for a good H/U but I heard the new alpine only have 2.5 volt preouts:blackeye:
and I don't really like how complicated Pioneer Head units are so I'm looking to buy either a Clarion or Kenwood.
How good are these 2 brands ?
Thanks.

So you think Clarion is overall a better H/U than Kenwood ?

I've owned a Kenwood, and it was an excellent unit, but I'm really looking forward to seeing wha the Clarion I just ordered can do. IMO, you can't go wrong with either.

Is the DZS855MP the one you ordered ?
I used to have a Clarion back in the days and it was pretty good actually.

I ordered the DXZ955MC... it's got some extra features, but the kind that make the pioneer confusing. I recommend the 855 because of the price and it fits what you are lookin for perfectly.

I know Pioneers are good Head units. I already have the P80-MP and I find it too hard to set the tunings and way too many features that I don't even use.
also when setting up the highs, low, bass, It gets pretty annoying cause if you don't set em correctly they voices sound hollow...:blackeye:
what is it that you think makes the pioneer so hard to use??? its all those little functions that you say you dont even use that actually make a big difference in the sound quality of the unit. if i were you, i would sit down in my car for awhile and learn how to use the p80mp. its a great deck. no point in wasting money.

I know it's a great deck but the Pioneer is staying in the camry for the wife and I'm picking up a 99 blazer and doing a whole new set up ;)
So I want something a little simpler and easier to use...

A question - no threadjack intended - but why is the preout voltage so important?

Try alpines new cda-9887 when it comes out in the summer. It has 4 volt pre outs and a whole lotta other stuff that has been missing the last couple of years. Plus it has their new Imprint technology.

After looking at the press releases on the 9887 I believe it is going to fall significantly outside of the OP's intended budget. :fyi:

I will probably give it a shot when it comes out.

:blackeye: I did that! I can see that generally people feel that higher voltage is better. But - & this might be stupid - once the amp gains are set correctly, does it make that much of a difference?
