hey guys i have the opportunity to get either of these for the same price brand new and was wondering which would be the better choice? i am choosing my amp based on which speakers I get so I would power either with what they need. which would you recommend?
crystal all the way. my friend has type x's and we both dislike them. the crystals are less expensive and the sound isnt as flat. i personally thought the type x's sound lifeless.

I had the Type X & It was one of my faveret Comp sets iv Owned..
It you set them up right they sound fantastic..
& with a tweeter that you can aim.. you can fine tune the stage after you install it
Bi-Ampable Comeon.. they really come to life when you got the Bi-Amped option & a Clean amp..
Just my $0.02

It really depends on what you're after, as both speakers fall into their own category of "better".
Here's how I would classify them:
SPX-177R = smooth, clean, and clear. Hardly and SPL but with utmost emphasis on SQ.
SSCS6 = Not as clean and clear as the SPX, but the powerful midbass (with 150-200W rms each) more than makes up for that if that is your goal. A nice mix of SPL and SQL.
