View Full Version : Looking for HU that Supports large cap USB Hard Drive
Hi Folks,
did a little searching here and not finding quite what I need. Im looking for a head unit that will support plugging in a USB hard drive. I would like the HU to support ID3 tagging as much as eight layers deep folders and with as many as 25 chares. in the display. Hard drive is currently 120 GBs with 45% used. Also, would like Sub, front and rear channel 4 volt output or better for connecting to my amp. Ability to connect an external XM radio would be nice but not absolutely necessary and I'd like it to match a BMW red interior. Anyway, I was using a Pioneer DEH-P8300 with a NEO, then I played around with a homebuilt car computer and now want to simplify and remove the 7" touch screen in the dash. I'll go back to searching but any suggestions you folks could make would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much.

Pioneer 6900ub has a USB input, IDK if it has the abilities you are seeking. Sound wise it should be pretty good, 4v, 7 band eq, 3 sets of RCAs out.
Check it out..

I cant find any in stock yet, probably buying one when they come out.
Premier 690ub is apparently the same..

I wouldn't buy from there, because you can usually find them cheaper, but all of those have USB inputs.
I called Pioneer about the P690UB but they werent able to tell me about the capacity for the HDD attached yet. The service rep told me they had requested that info last week and hadn't heard back yet. I also downloaded the user manual but wasnt able to find the answer yet. Well, thanks for the assistance. I'll just keep looking around.
Take care.

none of those kenwood HU's have enough power to power a harddrive. I've tried. Not enough juice in the USB port.

what if I were to run 5 volts to it stepped down from my car? or even connect a 3.5" drive to regulated 12 volts from my car? Will these HU's address the HDD? I think thats my question.

My plan is to use the Pioneer CD-UB100 USB adapter with my 7800. The owners manual for the USB adapter clearly states that max supported Hard Drive size is 250GB which is plenty for me. That adapter fits a bunch of the Pioneer head units also.
