**** thats a nice headunit. how much did you get it for? and did you sell your sub yet?

bought the 880prs local for a nice price... came with everything except the orignal box
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/Champaned_out/SpoonType-R020.jpg

was told by the seller that the remote wasnt working for the couple of days he had it in his car, but when i opened the battery tray to the remote, i realized someone put the battery in the opposite way so hopefully it works... but i wont find out until i get my dash kit
also i plan on keeping the sub for alittle bit longer, i want to see how it sounds after i install the new hu... should be a very nice upgrade from a stock OEM HU

BRZguy
02-14-2007, 04:02 AM
it will sound better i bet. the first thing i got was a headunit and it made my stock speakers sound better. but i still upgraded them.

860 & 880 .. which one is the nicer hu?

they are both great hu's...860 is last years model...im pretty sure they both have essentially the same options..its just a matter of which display that you like...blue and colored or a clean white

I wrestled with this one for about a month. I was very close to getting this head unit. I really like the looks of this deck. I would seem to be able to do it all. But I went with the Excelon X-990. There were alot of factors that went into my decision, but I do believe I would have been very happy with this Pioneer deck. It's a beauty.

no... what color would you want to change it to anyway?
if you fu@k up im sure pioneer would throw your warrenty away and you would end up with a dead $350 hu
unless you know what your doing i wouldnt recommend swapping out leds

Take 2 seconds and search, and you will find pages and pages of information. Its only the most talked about deck on this forum as of now.

It would be nice to have amber LEDs instead of blue. I've mentioned on other posts how much I hate blue LEDs. Not because they're blue per se, but because it's hard to match a blue deck to a lot of factory lighting.

I'm not quite ready to gut a brand-new deck and replace LEDs. At least not surface-mount units. Through-hole standard LEDs are another story ;)

you just described the 880... if you arent into flashy decks with color screens and all that and this is what you'd be looking for
a HU that gives out incrediable SQ for it's price with the classy/vip style look
just type in pioneer 880 in the search function and read away

Thanks for the quick response. It's appearance reminds me of old HU's. I loved the old stuff. It's hard to find a good performing deck these days. There are flashy units on the market, but they sound like ***.

Did you not notice that you can switch it to all white? Only the knobs can change lighting color from white to blue.

IMO amber colored knobs with white text would look so much like *** and so not pioneer.

Nope, none at all. That is why Pioneer and alot of mfgs have gone to that voltage. 8 volt preouts was more for marketing hype than real world needs.
