View Full Version : Is this to big? Kicker L7 12 box.

Hey all, havent posted in a while, trying to really push a l7 12 but wanted to see if this is too much or not.. the plot looks good on WinISD but I know that doesnt always show the full picture, anyway, this is what I am looking at.

3.5cu.FT tuned to ~31 Hz with 31.25sq.In port area

Going for good SQ with a fair amount of bump (going in family car)

Driving it with 800w RMS

Talked to a friend, recomended more port area.... so this is what happened, need to know if I should have some wood re-cut.

Make the port 3.5 X 12.5 X 26.75
The increase in port displacement inside the box drops it from 3.5 to 3.25 for woofer after displacments and tunning would go to 33. Do you guys think this is better? sounded about right to me, gets me up to about 42sq In port area

Big means more efficent and generally a flatter responce.

eh in my opinion i think that u could go smaller if you want to, and more than 16 sq inches of port is never recommended. so just run by that rule but this is one of the fun/expensive parts of this hobby, testing to see what works haha good luck

I'm with big sherm on that one.... no more then 16" of port? First time I have heard that in 11 years of car stereo......

So you guys think I should go with the first one I posted or second? I am leaning towards the slightly smaller box (.25 cu ft smaller) with the much bigger port.

Still a smooth plot, with a much more efficent(sp?) port, and another 1.5db gain in the 30ish to 50ish hertz range.
