Sup all, today was my first build ever dealing with....well....anything.

Ive never really built anything before and today with limited tools, cold weather, and only a weekend to get it done (im home from college for the weekend) i did what i had to do.

box is 6.5 cubes tuned to 32 htz, top firing sub, rear firing port.

no i didnt round the port...its only a one sided port...i could still round it in the future...so rounding and 90'ing the corners werent that big of deal...and that box was not built by me but was covered in flannel

Nice looking build, it looks great!

What's the port area?

and

What are the external dimensions and port dimensions?

This design is one of my 3 possible choices on my next build for my 18" BTL.

How come I never got pics of your decal installed? :)

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 01:07 PM
yeah the port is screwed in all the way down the sides of the box...im going to the carwash in 10 minutes then ill take a pic of the decal but...

im having a problem...my box is literally bouncing off the ground and shaking a small compartment that it sits on that is flush to the ground...any idea how to fix this?

it is definitely possible that you are going to need more bracing in that thing, belive it or not that wood is prolly flexing, BTW i love that you carpeted that in flannel i LOL'ed

Where did you run the wires?

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 03:55 PM
wires are straight out the back....i didnt think it would be necessary to mount dowels length wise....i dont know i feel like its bouncing on the small false floor where my spare tire is in...im upping some pics and a vid of them problem

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:07 PM
pics and vid of whats going on is up...i guess im going to have to bolt this down somehome but i really dont want to...that or somehow deaded that little cargo area in the trunk....hmmm

nice outfit for one...

and is the port about 1 inch from the backwall?

azbass
02-11-2007, 04:14 PM
bolt the box down, you know how much sound you are loseing with the box flopping around ?

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:15 PM
um id say about 3/4 inches why?

9512ds
02-11-2007, 04:15 PM
wow...

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:15 PM
i know...i just dont have any experience with bolting it down...and i dunno what 2 do...any way to bolt it down from the exterior...or any alternatives...i know im losing output cause without it bolted its still louder than ****

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:16 PM
wow what?

azbass
02-11-2007, 04:16 PM
oo. and your port is way to close to the hatch..

if there are cargo straps, which im sure there is, you can fab up mounting brackets to that.

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:18 PM
i had the port the same distance with my last box...actually it was closer last time...with it shut its about 5 inches...ive heard that up to 3 inches is ok...i was wrong i guess?

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:22 PM
im gonna go measure how close the port is to the hatch..and bring my Subsonic filter up a few htz cause this box is tuned higher than my older one...and see if i can think how to get this thing to sit down...

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 04:56 PM
well i cant figuere out weather its the port itself flexing or the floor beneath it....right now subsonic filter is set to like 29 htz, and low pass around 85

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 05:35 PM
any idea on what 2 do here fellas...i cant tell if its the port or the floor...what should i do?

lostdaytomorrow
02-11-2007, 06:19 PM
You can't tell if what's the port or the floor? The moving part?

mazdakid
02-11-2007, 06:38 PM
the back of the port needs to be more than 3/4" away from the back wall of the box

mazdakid
02-11-2007, 06:39 PM
and you should probably brace the middle of the port on the outside to another wall of the box

fwb_1234
02-11-2007, 07:29 PM
how about that decal pic?

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 08:43 PM
sorry guys...little confusion..the port is 3-4 inches from the hatch...not 3/4 of an inch...my bad....and could you explain about the bracing a little more maybe?...well the box is moving enough to vibrate around and will move itself...but i cant tell if that is because my bottom is flexing so much so where it moves the box or if my spare tire cover is moving and causing the box to move

mazdakid
02-11-2007, 08:54 PM
that port piece is probably shaking bad, you need to brace it either inside the port, or inside the box. and its pretty close to the back of the inside of the box

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 09:35 PM
so you think its really the port flexing and not the bottom?

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 10:08 PM
bump....any other ideas...

i want to know the distance of the port to the back wall of the enclosure on the inside in this picture...

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q314/dvrmstrng/portin.jpg

dvrmstrng
02-11-2007, 10:43 PM
yes about jesus and...by the plans that port is 2.25" from the back wall....

dvrmstrng
02-12-2007, 11:07 AM
bump....adding another baffle on the bottom of the box is whats up right now...anyone agree/disagree with that?

fwb_1234
02-12-2007, 10:54 PM
it would make it heavier and if it is not on a perfectly level surface already, the added stiffness would help with bottom flex. That bottom flex could be the source of your problems. Thats really a pretty good idea, I think.

dvrmstrng
02-13-2007, 12:37 AM
thanks dude...im back at school but next time i run home im gonna cut a piece out of the sheet i have left and screw and glue it on there
help with the flex
