View Full Version : 4 15" CVX's in a Astro Van

My current system is about to be sold here next week or so. New setup consists of (4) 15" Kicker CVX's off of (2) PA3000DB's. I am truly considering trading/selling my Explorer in for this 1998 Chevy Astro for sale at a dealership in town. Does anyone see any advantages/disadvanges as far as the new CVX setup going into a Astro van as to my Explorer? Box will be CRX style. It will be really tight for room in the Explorer and it would nice to get rid of my payments on it so I can afford more audio equipment. This setup will be strictly daily driving with no competing. I see tons of walls in Astro but no boxes in the back. Will this CVX style box not be good for a Astro? Anyone have any CRX style box setups in a Van? Thanks guys

Well two main reasons why I'm thinking about doing this... No more $400 payments a month, and no full coverage insurance. I'll be saving almost $500 a month if I bag it. Plus there will be a lot more room for a bigger enclosure back there and more room for Mids/Highs.

how about an older explorer?

They have a smaller cargo room than what I have now, and they're not as nice (interior wise) as a van.

The thing is, I'm in the Military and dont' get paid worth a ****. If I keep the Explorer it might be like 6+ monthes before everything gets ordered and installed. The Astro could be done within a month or two. Because then I wouldent have a car payment anymore and hardly anything for insurance.

How is that?

I'm making a solid point.

Why do people buy cars when they have 400 dollar payments

maybe they had a previous crappy car and didnt want to deal with the mechanical problems. maybe it was a goal of theres to own a brand new car in the near future. maybe money wasnt so tight back then. thats not his question. hes asking our imput on what he should get next. stay on topic.

i think a van would be an extreme though. maybe a few years older suv. i love my dakota (durangos are the same thing with more room). maybe a used tahoe or magnum? but if your set on the van, have at it brother

Never did, just said buying a stereo when money is tight is not a good financial move, and asked why people buy cars when they know their payments are going to be so big.

I see no harm...

he never said money was tight, he just said he'd be getting rid of a $500 a month payment. thats something even people with money would consider doing.

get off your high horse, no one really likes you anyways douchebag

Daym son, this thread is goin nukin futs! Lets please stay on topic anyway.... this isen't "Platestacker is a broke *****" thread! It's Explorer vs. Astro. And up here, the used SUV are HELLA expensive. I'm talking 10K+ for a 10 year old 100,000 mile SUV! Then I'd have car payments and the same or even less cargo room :(

Hahah... yea man. I'm kinda strayin away from it right now. But that extra $500 a month sounds sooo good. And getting the system bought so much quicker. But the Explorer is pretty nice looking and drives like a dream. Blaaaah...

yea im kinda agasint buying a new truck its just not worth it.. I can understand taking a loan and getting like a 3yr old car but anywayss a full size van i think is pretty ill not exactley practical for much other then systems and n having a stoner van ha.. something big and more hip could be like suburban...

Get a Yukon, Tahoe, or something in that zone and call it a day. You see the 01's to 03's go for 10k-15k daily

W8 a minute
02-11-2007, 09:36 PM
Both the Astro and the Explorer will last forever. IMHO there's nothing wrong with an Astro van if it's done right. Just don't buy one with windows all the way around they ****.

Edit: For the record I make close to 6 figures and live in a state with almost the lowest cost of living in America and almost weekly I think of ditching my $440 a month car payment for something cheap to drive.

A 98 astro van will:
1. Break down and have problems way sooner than your explorer
2. Probably just end up being an endless money hole with a system like that and repairs
3. Most importantly make you look like a petifile

That's just my 2 cents. If you want go for it but definatly pics and vids when done.

hey ive got a 88 astro van for my spl vehicle, i didnt build it, I bought it all ready to go from the shop I used to work at, but, fully loaded its gets between 20-22 mpg in stop/go traffic and almost 30 on the highway, and with me in it weighs in at around 6500-6600 depends what ive got in it. It has the 4.3 v6 in it and its stock down to the air filter, but I also dont drive it like an idiot bc I know it wont go anywhere fast :D But it is comfy to drive, I kinda thought about getting another one for a DD, I think the 88-9x(not sure what year they changed in the 90's) with a body kit dropped a bit looks sweet, but thats my opinion, good luck with your decision--Dinty

O and i have a wall in there with 4 18"s

O and i have a wall in there with 4 18"s Thanks for the good input. The one I have been looking at has windows all around. What exactly is wrong with that as opposed to a straight box van? Remember, I'm looking for a Daily Driver and not a strickly SPL machine. I see you have a wall also. Has anyone on here heard of a Astro with a reguler sub enclosure in the back, preferbly a CRX style one?

dinty01
02-13-2007, 10:57 AM
i think it is do to the flexing of the glass and the sides for a SPL application. But if you are just going to be using it for a DD I dont think it would be a problem if you go with the window versions. I havent heard an astro with a regular box, but I have heard an older dodge caravan and it sounded really good, I dont remember if it was "loud" or not but it is do-able. And I dont know what a CRX style box is, yea I know Im a noob :D
