im looking to buy a new tv and the one that fits my budget is a curved screen tv. now for the past year or so i've had a flat screen tube tv. is there really any benefit over the flat screens?

not much...the flat screen is SUPPOSED to help prevent glare from lights.

The benefit is that tubes have a better picture and blacks. They are just too heavy to carry around and casual consumers consider them old technology and are done with them.
Edit: I thought you meant flat panel TV's.

So go to Best Buy, Circuit ******, or a Local Mom & Pop TV store, tell them your budget and let them show you what you can get.
Pick the thing that looks the best for your eyes.... It's the way I shop for TVs/Speaker/Components.....
