Ok, so I'm ditching the flipout and going for a traditional head unit. I want something with good SQ, and time alignment, for under $300

Heres what I'm looking at:
Pioneer DEH-P880PRS
Pioneer DEH-P780
Kenwood KDC-X990
Eclipse CD5000 (does it have TA?)

Any other suggestions?

Eclipse 8053

Pro's:
-10-band PEQ works excellent and is enough to calm most interiors and/or not quite perfect speaker placement
-Crossover's - easily adjustable, make a change and it is saved (Alpine take note), 0-24dB (nice), accurate
-Display - easy to read under most conditions
-Sound - no noise issues whatsoever, just clean beautiful rich sound
-Time Alignment - easy to set up
-Option to go balanced, optical
-pre-amp only
-8v outputs

Not that it's in your budget or time range. But the new excelon deck (x991) is **** as hell and has an internal half gig hd and full speed ipod controls. :)

I would NOT get the CD5000.

My pick would be the 880...

if you don't do ipod or xm the 8053 would be a great deck.

or the 8443 is the same thing except it has an internal amp and doesn't have the balanced outputs. they go for about $200 or less if you can find one

jmanpc
02-10-2007, 03:25 PM
I dont have an iPod nor do i want to pay for XM :D

then the 8053 would make a great deck. 10 band peq, TA, 3-way xover, etc.

The kenwood is a real nice deck. The 890 should have time alignment, my older 889 does.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is time alignment?

Corollacrazy42
02-10-2007, 11:28 PM
Setting the timing of each speaker so that the sound made by the speaker reaches your ear at the same time as the others.

This means in an example that you time a speaker 10 feet away from you to reach you at the same time as a speaker only a foot away.

^ bad example, but it does work.

Also I was gonna add my x-979 to the list, but its a fold down

Ok, I've narrowed it down to 2:

a) the 880PRS... yeah yeah yeah everyone knows about it.

or

b) Clarion DXZ955MC- pretty much Clarion's top of the line. It's got everything the PRS has, except its only got a 3-band EQ...
