Hi guy's & girl's i found the time was right to try out my XXX in a ported box in the new car. So i have built a ported box for it just to see how it sounds in the car the sub is a 15 inch so the box is around .5CU'FT .Under sized from what most would run a 15 inch in minamal of 3.5CU'FT

This is my second time making a box so dont be to hard on me lol it's
3CU'FT net
35 HZ

Made from 18mm mdf Gripfill and some screw's to hold it all in place. The pic's are not the best but i could not find the battrey to my DC so i used a Razer V3 mobile phone. Anyway on with the pic's

To Start with the tool's
Drill bit

Screws
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0101.jpg

countersunk bit
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0109.jpg

Next to dry fit the box started with port
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0059.jpg

Then added predrilled holes
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0108.jpg

Then countersunk and screwed the wood

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0112.jpg

Next the same againe this time the back and side's

The to place it on the bottom & add the front
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0237.jpg

Next it was adding the port
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0255.jpg

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0256.jpg

Then last but not lest the top
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_0314.jpg

I found i hade a problem with the wood each cut had a littel hill in the center of each cut so i thnk there must be a problem with the Saw are something i dont know.

Ok so no the box is all set up time to take it back down and use my Adhesive

I used a Adhesive called Gripfill
http://www.fixandmend.co.uk/Chulmleigh/3760018.jpg

So as you can see the box now being rebuilt but this time with Gripfill Adhesive
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_1452.jpg

http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_1453.jpg

After i got the back and side's down i painted along the in side of the box where the port is going to be and same with the Slot Port and the fitted it.
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~toxicuk/08-02-07_1703.jpg

And as you can see i used the Gripfill Adhesive around the port to

Then fitted the top
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/mobboss/08-02-07_2118.jpg

And thats all i could do as im waiting on for my Jasper 200 Jig and my Router bit's to come. And im going to pick some acoustic carpet up the week end.

Thank's for looking

no wood glue FTL

indeed, is there a reason you went with that stuff instead of some wood glue?

but that box looks pretty good for your second one.

Here we go again ... Wood glue is meant for wood for a reason: chemical bonds are always stronger than physical ones.

Nice looking box.

dont get me wrong there lot's of cheap *** wood glues about but i know this stuff is realy strong and it's cheap act's as a sealant all so. And is going to be

Nice looking box.

Yea Titebond. It forms a chemical bond between the 2 joints. Using anyhing else, its the glue/sealer itself holding the peices together, you are relying on that only.

OP: How do you like those angle clamps? I just picked up a 4 pack on ebay for $20 shipped. They looked pretty nice being all metal, plus I wanted a set.

Looking good.

Wood glue does NOT chemically bond with the wood. It simply seeps into both pieces of wood and when it cures the joint is encased in glue. There is no chemical reaction involved.
The fact that wood is essentially a mass of fibers running in a generalized direction can be used to our advantage when gluing pieces together. When the fibers within two pieces of wood being joined are positioned correctly, modern adhesives can create a bond that is often stronger than the wood itself. The fibrous consistency allows the adhesive to form this bond IN not just ON the surface of the wood being joined. This is very different from the way that Gorilla Glue or epoxy work. They rely on adhesion to the surfaces to be joined to form a bond.

Wood glue is the only thing you should be using.

There is no chemical reaction involved. This is very different from the way that Gorilla Glue or epoxy work. They rely on adhesion to the surfaces to be joined to form a bond. We've had this discussion before, and I asked my neighbor (who has a woodworking shop in the basement) and he said that it is technically a mechanical bond, but because it emulsifies the wood fibers together, it is often considered chemical. It acts like a chemical bond, but there is no reaction like you said.
