so, there i was three weeks ago, making a 11 cube box for my 2 12's, crazy you tell me, i thought i was right.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a141/mikescanlon11/HTR032.jpg

you were right mighty forum, you were, in anger and through tears, i burned my pride and joy, she was a monster, but she was my own.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a141/mikescanlon11/HTR011.jpg

and with the conservative usage of airspace, and smaller woofers, i decided to rebuild, and rebuild in the name of the people whom flamed me for the giant build before, they were right, they knew all, there was no angle of physics they couldn't bang into a 90 degree angle, and they had taught me through taunting words, and little smilies, that i must do as they say.

so i made this.

how everyone likes it? it pounds.

yeah, that's pressure treated pine, 1x6's, should last for 50 years outdoors.

yeah, actually i was surprised that it burnt like that, ididn't get a picture, but about a minute and a half in, it was all... like desert sand cracked apart looking just on one side, and regular mdf on the outside, it would be cool to make a box, then burn the outside like that and cover it with some resin, it would look pretty bad ***.

what it is, all those pieces that look cracked, is all the glue rising to the surface, as it doesn't burn as fast as the wood particles

the other box my little brother made for his truck, without asking me anything about box building. i laughed for like 20 minutes when i saw this thing, it looks too funny.

it sounds horrible.

900 shipped?

i'll start the bidding here, do i hear any higher offers? :) :greedy:

what were te dimensions on that box, and what kind of truck?

it's a chevy colorado, the old box actually was pretty great after i ported it, it was 49x25x20 11 cubes gross, about 8 cubes after displacement with 5, 6 inch aero's tuned to 30hz.

reason for the burning, is getting a new truck in a month or so, and this box wont anywhere near fit (new truck is a 4door)

The fire department actually showed up on us. Bastards..releases large amounts of formaldehyde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formaldehyde) which is very toxic.

mikescanlon

releases large amounts of formaldehyde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formaldehyde) which is very toxic.

Formaldehyde readily results from the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing materials. It may be found in the smoke from forest fires, in automobile exhaust, and in tobacco smoke. In the atmosphere, formaldehyde is produced by the action of sunlight and oxygen on atmospheric methane and other hydrocarbons. Small amounts of formaldehyde are produced as a metabolic byproduct in most organisms, including humans.

so does smoking, camp fires, farting and digesting food.

we were standing upwind of the fire anyway.

area in green is dead airspace, 4 inches, by 18 inches, by 49 inches

+the ports themselves, and the woofers = 3 cubes of airspace.

douche.

mazdakid

ok how long was each of your 5 6" aeroports to get your 30hz tuning and 8 cubes

mikescanlon
02-04-2007, 02:28 PM
18 inches bro.

you seriously have no life if you're going to do the math on this one.

mazdakid
02-04-2007, 05:13 PM
thats what a forum is for, it takes a minute to put the numbers in a website. your not tuned anywhere near 30hz if your box is 8 cubes and you have 5 of those ports

yeah, it was, and as you can see, nobody is going to be tuned to anything with that box ever again.

i dont think you did the math, i think you're making a generalization.

mazdakid
02-04-2007, 08:58 PM
ok i get around 47hz then since i didnt do the math

it's 47hz in metric, shut up.

not really idiots, but closed minded, my amp is nowhere near the recommended specs for these woofers, so in a larger box, the mechanical handling of the woofers drops. so i get a highly efficient system that bumps on low power.

this whole thread was really a joke.

i wouldn't have burnt it if i wasn't getting a new truck.

first.....assuming it is all single sided...thats 12 cubes gross. If those are external dimensions that is....if that is internal....its a bit over 14 cubes.

Now....saying that it is 8 cubes net. it was for two type r 12's correct? thats ~.2 cubes a piece....so say .4 cubic feet displacement by the subs. that leaves you 11.6 cubes internal volume assuming those are external dimensions. Now....each port at 18 inches long are .1 cubic foot. Seeing as you had....5 ports I believe....thats .5 cubic foot of port displacement.

Now....11.6-.4(subs)-.6(ports)=10.6 cubes net

Im not even gunna mess with ports, because you prolly murdered that also. When designing a box you have to take into account that if you have more than one port you have to divide airspace by however many ports. 8 cubes with 5 ports = one port per 1.6 cubes. That SHOULD be ~16 inches. Your at 18...eating at that 1.6 cubes, and too long for tuning anyways. Theres no telling where your tuned in 11.2 cubes.
