$300 is the range (I know it's not alot) and they will be for party music (want a decent thump), a little bit of everyday music (don't want it to sound like poo) and to START a surround sound for a HT setup (will add more in the future).....
Thanks!

depends what you think poop is? i say get at least $500 for EACH and you will be pleased anything from paradigm.monitor,b&w,deftech.

those cerving vegas you posted are just in your budget though its really depends what kind of music you like to listing to. if your only into hip hop or rap or rock then tehy will do just fine. but say you want to pop in some alicia keys or something wiht female vocals and alot of intrunemts thats where a not so good speaker will stand out.

**edit**

if you want bookshelfs instead i suggest some b&w's and those will sound might good just you will need a subwoofer for the low end and those are way cheaper then towers..

I love the look of those but I would like feedback from someone BESIDES ED people on it before I'd spend the $$.

I have a feeling that B&W's lower cost line isn't what he is looking for.

I think he is looking for output > quality, but still with some decent quality.

Look at JBL, Infinity, or others.

Unless you listen to and like those B&Ws. IN that case GET THEM!

Ive got a Pair of older Cerwin Vega RE-30's and they sound great. They have a 12" woofer, so they hit the lows pretty well. And they have pretty good quality also.

If they sound like the RE38s, then they sound decent.....imo. I definitely wouldnt say great. But I guess it is all preference...so maybe he'll think they sound great too. Great party speakers though. However, I wouldnt use them as my HT speakers.

Yea there not the best, but I think they sound good. They get loud as **** and still sound good. And x2 about being great party speakers.

Those old buggers like that I'm sure would stomp, and sound good doing it.

Are B&W's the best there is/think they're better than the ED's??

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say B&W > ED......

However, you have to take into account what they are going to be used for to make that statement.....

Saying a speaker is the best is like saying ford is the best or Dodge is the best. It can't be done. There are way too many subjective things, however Bowers & Wilkins is one of the best.... :)

If you want some good party speakers, you may want to look into a pair of Klipsch's.

Maybe something along the line of these...

If you're willing to do $500 a pair, I've got a pair of Klipsch Forte II's that I'd be willing to let go...they're more efficient than the eD's could ever hope to be, and with a 12" front firing driver and a 15" PR go deeper as well...

They get loud with my monoblocks, that do ~8W per side...I'd hate to think what they'd do with solid state amplification :D
