Ok well, I am looking at getting a 15" BL and I need a box in my trunk that will fit. I will definatly be using Birch as MDF is just too heavy and hard to work with.

The major problem I am working with is my trunk. It is hard to explain but only for 1ft (from the seats back) the trunk is 14" high. That is from the rear seats, about 1ft into the trunk, then after that, it is like 20-22" high. So my box has to be 14" high. This mean's, I could not fit a 15" facing back. So I will need to do a sub facing up, port back design.

I am wondering if will do a quick sketchup of a box for a 15" BL, tuned to 32hz and about 4.25cuft with around 70" of port.

Max Dims are 31" wide, 14" high and about 52" deep.

I will grab some pics with Dim's on them for a better understanding.

So does it have anything to do structuraly with the car? I do not want to start cutting away structural stuff. I mean, if it doesn't have a purpose, why would Dodge put it there in the first place? (not trying to be a feg, just a Q)

Thanks.

Also, I kind of like the idea of having the sub face up, port back. Also, that thing that piece of metal that hangs down is only like 11" deep, so the baffle of the box (top) would have to have 11" of open space near the back, the space for the sub. Seems easier than before.

And the 3/4 view for better understanding. Box Specs are: 3.8cu @ 32hz with 62.5" of port.

thats how my box is designed. I have a 15 XXX in my accord. But is woofer cone flexes my rear deck so much from the air, i dont really like it. im building a new box tomarrow. Also i see that your going to use birch? So am i, isnt it stronger than MDF?

From what I have heard, yes it is stronger, 1/2 the weight and leaves you with a lot easier of a cleanup.

I would do a port back, sub back box, but I don't feel like cutting up my car.

Also, how far is the sub from the roof of your back deck/trunk?

sub up ***** ... all u get is a ton of ratting... do sub firing forward port firing to the pass side

My trunk is only 14" high for about a foot from back of the seats towards the taillights, then the height is like 22", so I would have a good 6" of space above the sub to the rear deck/trunk lid. I've damplifier'd the **** out of my back deck/trunk lid.

its still gonna be quiet man... do either forward firing or rear firing... firing up is horrible

Some people says it sounds fine and others not. I'm really stuck =\

Why not slant the face OR back of the box so that you could fit the sub there instead of on top. In other words, it would look more like a "wedge" type box. The slanted front piece would provide you with more height to mount the sub, while not making the overall height of the box any greater. Does that make sense? /_|

If you cannot fit a 15", why not look into a 12"

I've had one too many 12s. I want to step it up.

I heard the same thing about having a sub facing up in a trunk. A couple people I know did a single 15 or 18 facing up and liked it.

That's good. I think I may try it. But I will be PISSED if it doesn't sound good, as I will be using birch plywood and it is expensive as hell.

I've got an intrepid too, what kind of setup do you have?

That would probably get loud. I've had a few single 12" setups of 1.5kw and got decently loud considering my seats don't fold.

I think I am going to try the box and see how it is.
