My friends family finally upgraded from there 1996 Magnavox big screen to a 62" Hitachi plasma today. I got off school today at 11:00 am so I came over to hook it up along with the Sony dvd/5.1 speaker combo thing they got also. I took about 2 hours to get everything done. They only reason it took so long is because I had my friends dad's friend who is re-doing the basement over with me to help and his pinky is broken so its in a cast and I cant lift the tv by myself so I had to wait untill my friend got home to help lift it. So I wired up the Comcast HD box and dvd player with component cables (they didnt want to spend another $100 for HDMI cables), sat back and watched some tv.

We watched snakes on a plane, which looked pretty good and sounded awesome from those little speakers and sub. Then after the movie my friend wanted to watch American Ido, so he went to the standard FOX station and it look alright. Not that good though for a plasma. I told him to go to the HD Fox, he changed it and ****, It looked like you were in the room with all the people. lol Clear as ***.

But spending $4000 on a tv to have the regular stations look all grainy and having my 5 year old Samsung tv look better isnt worth it right now. Even thought it looks awesome on HD and movies :D

Thats all

:word: I picked up a 30meter HDMI cable for $120...Parts Express has 'em for as little as $20 , not 30meter ones but ones that are perfect for home apps...

Ps3 is actually cheap (as far as blu-ray goes) route for blu-ray...or the HD-dvd ADD ON if you already have the 360....

As of now though, I am pretty sure there are ALOT more blu-ray titles than HD dvd..it could be hear-say but I read it somewhere...either way, I am happy with blu-ray and I'm sure others are happy with HD

Its not going to matter anymore...

I was reading through Popular Mechanics that one of the major companies, toshiba and the like, has developed a chip that can play both HD-DVD and Blu-ray...

Very smart idea!!! If I had the 360 instead of the PS3, I'd definitly go for HD DVD...I just stick with blu-ray for convienance....both are new technologies and we'll know the winner of the debate in a year or two.

:word: I think the war isnt gonig to boil down to the consumer as much after that new chip/player comes out...assuming its competitively priced...

I wish we could get an HDtv but they are so darn expensive, just to watch TV. I was at my uncles house who has a HD plasma and we were watching football o it and it perfect, like being there in the stadium.

and their is suppose to be a dual format player from goldstar but it might not even come out due to issues with it not playing hd-dvds advance features....

also their will be a $200 stand alone player second quarter this year a chinease one that was annonced like a week ago. blu ray only announced their cheapest wich was $799

heres some pix of my tv and hd-dvd collection ive collected in the past 3 months i have 65 titles just my brother borrowed a couple and hasnt returned them... heh dont care ii trust him..

True that mang.... But Hitachi is in the same "club" group as Pioneer and I'm pretty sure that TV is very similar to the "standard" Pioneer TV's. SO, it looks great I'm sure....

What we need is for ALL the networks to broadcast in HD and in 16.9 format. I am so tired of the stations going back and forth between 4.3 and 16.9. Whats even better is when the broadcast in 4.3 format and then in that format show a widescreen. Makes my 42" like 19", lol
