4.2ft^3 slid right into my trunk, no problems, I want to get as big of a box in my trunk as possible, an in-trunk build will be my last resort, as I still want to access my spare tire (even though I jut got new tires, meh :D)

I was talking to Megalo, and we thought about having the sub face up and the port face the side, I dont have any problem getting the box made, I just need to get the basics of how everything will fit.

I can post dimensions in a bit of my trunk, and pictures. Anyone who can help I will <333 forever and I will lather them with **** videos.

Yeah, was just throwing out the idea.

Looking like it'll be an in trunk build, or at least part of it will be, I mainly want a design that I can work off of.

or at least help :) Or someone who can show me how to design :D

Baseballer - It's not on the site, they're website design people havnt finished the design or something. Pics are on the FI forum.

take out your backseats..one big box, bottom of the floor to the top of the roof, extending up under into your truck, using every bit of space.

I thought about it, but it wont happen until I leave the house for college lol, trunk will have to do.

Yet, I'm not opposed to using aero ports and having them outside my trunk (in the cabin, my back seats fold down)

:D

Joseph - Just the man I wanted to see :) Got any thoughts on this? You've seen my trunk, I was thinking, we could use the same box (relatively) as the one for my BM's, but add on to the sides in the trunk,, maybe?

I'll find my dimensions here in a bit, but I know the max height is like 17.5 inches, and that gives about half an inch clearance under the speakers, maybe more.

Can't find the dimensions, I'll get them tomorrow, I know its 30 inches across to get INTO the trunk, but w can always drop it in from the top, I think that width is 40 ish?

I'll be a daily driver, so I should be alright. I've talked to scott a bit about it, I should be pretty good. Didn;'t kennys box give each 18in btl about 8 cubes? This sub is supposed to be between the q and the btl, so 6 SHOULD be decent, im sure it wouldnt mind more, but this might hav to do for a few months :)

Measurements:

Opening is 41inches wide

Trunk is about 41 inches deep

Widest part of turnk (refer to pics) is about 62 inches

The smaller part of the trunk is 45 inches

Height w/ speakers is 17 inches

Height w/o speakers is about 19inches

Just to give you an Idea...Do you remember Kenny Pollocks first setup with his SX 18". He had to glass the tire well out just to get enough room. and his car is a FULL SIZE LUXUARY CAR. Also take into accout, you are going to want at least 70sq. inches of port....thats a slot port that is 15x4.6". So add in all of your displacements, port and sub, and ther is probably no way you could get 7 cubes or maybe even 6 cubes...Right now, looks like your best bet might be to go sealed.

Since my back seats fold down, couldnt I have the sub reverse mounted into the cabin, and the port on the same side? All facing the cabin?

I was planning at tuning around 32hz, but whatever now :D

k guys this is just a generalization and a good rule of thumb to follow when building an enclosure for the fully loaded BTL's.

12" - 1.75-3 cubic feet tuned to 30-35Hz for daily driving applications.

15" - 3 (depending on tuning) to 5 cubic feet tuned 30-35Hz for a daily application.

18" - 5-8 cubic feet ported, 30-35Hz tuning.

Crazy, w/ 6 cubes, what would that tune to? Low 30's?

~Magick_Man~
01-16-2007, 10:49 PM
well i just did some figuring and with 6 cu/ft a slot port 5"H x20"W 20.6"L would tune it to 34 and would need about 7.6-7.7 cubes before sub/port displacement.

hmm i am not sure if you have that kind of room available without building in the trunk at least partially.

how big is the opening behind the rear seats?

it might be possible but it wont be easy.

can someone double check something for me.
i think i am going crazy.

with a box that has internal dimensions of 22.5 x 38.5 x 15.25 i am getting 7.65ish cubic feet
it just doesn't seem right, but i have checked it a couple times with the same result every time.

if that is the case it is seeming more possible to fit this monster in there.

lol, divide by 12 much?

I got 6.43??

~Magick_Man~
01-16-2007, 11:13 PM
since 22.5 x 38.5 = 866.25 sq-in
then 866.25 x 15.25 = 13210 cu-in
13210 / 1728 = 7.64... cubic feet.

it should come out to right at 6 cubes after the port and sub are taken out.

and his trunk opening is very large so i think it will fit.
i would have to see his trunk again in person to see if it would actually fit
but for now i believe it should be possible to make it happen.

with a box like this where would we put the sub and port?

i would imagine sub up and port back...
but the box would probably need to be a bit shorter to give the sub some distance from the trunk lid.

well the problem with that is the sub is wider than the box would be tall
but we could slant the face the sub would be on to gain the necessary room

is your trunk lid held up by torsion rods?
or pneumatic cylinders?
if it uses torsion rods that might cause a problem.

well that in my opinion would be optimal. whatever you do, you know how most seats fold down, you do not wanna choke off that area, leave at least 1/3 open to displace some air and not just load the trunk area.;)

Just got an email back from Scott

While I would suggest 8 cuft tuned to 33Hz for the BL18, it still will be louder overall than a BL15 (in 3.5 cuft tuned to 33Hz) if run in 6 cuft tuned to 33Hz. You will have a little more extension on the bottom end, not too mention 2+ dB more overall. Kind of a tossup at that point if space is an issue and you would be happier with the smaller enclosure for the 15.
Otherwise, with 6cuft after prot and driver, tuned to 33Hz, it should work fairly well. It wont be peaky, and have a smoother roll off on the bottom end which would work well with most vehciles transfer functions.

Decisions Decisions Decisions.

For real? I wanna see your box after its all said and done.

Do you have a trunk car?

Ah forgot, your max dimensions must be the max dimensions for having the box built inside. That *****, gotta love my hatch, have no problem!

well i just did some figuring and with 6 cu/ft a slot port 5"H x20"W 20.6"L would tune it to 34 and would need about 7.6-7.7 cubes before sub/port displacement.

hmm i am not sure if you have that kind of room available without building in the trunk at least partially.

how big is the opening behind the rear seats?

it might be possible but it wont be easy.

from the dimensions he said he can do 38wide x 38deepx14high (should fit easy)
that 9 cubes internal be4 sub and port displacement
sub up port back

well we might have been able to get an 18 in there but we would have to build in the trunk.
with the box i am building for the 15 he will still have plenty of trunk space left which is always a plus.

18" was just too big. he would have ahd to build the box in the trunl to get it to work. and even then his dimensions wouldnt have been that efficient. Scott recomended he go with a 15" and have the right box for it.
