For those of you that do not know, I had recently ordered a Samsung HL-S5086W, a 50" Samsung DLP HDTV.

Well, today I took delivery of it, and have hooked it up. Have my 360 hooked up via component, my DVD player via component, and my HD tuner box hooked up through HDMI/DVI adaptor (box only has DVI output).

I have to calibrate the TV, but from messing with the settings a little bit, it looks amazing. HD channels can look better, I'm trying to figure out how to change it from 1080i to 720p on my box.

Xbox360 looks AMAZING. It looks nuts. I've been playing RB6: Vegas and it's crazy. Love it.

I'll take some pics in a little bit...right now still playing around with it all :)

On the console start it without a disc, and go to settings, and there will be an are to change it to the 1080i setting.

how do you change the resolution on your cable box?

how do you change the resolution on your cable box?

I had to turn off the box and hold down some buttons on it to get into the setup wizard- from there I selected what resolutions I want to use- chose 720p and 1080i, and saved settings.

****, I didn't get a manual with mine to tell me how to do that.:(

it just says 1080i next to the channel # on my HD channels.

They didn't give me a manual, either.

Had to go to Scientific Atlanta's website and find the .pdf's for the manuals/user guides and figure it out on my own.

you know you can get the 360 hd-dvd add on for $199 or if you want to wait rumors of a blu ray and hd-dvd player coming out at ces from lg. dunno how good it will look or price but it should be intresting.

now you need a 5.1,6.1,7.1 wichever you prefer setup :)

im so anxious to get my new towers and center channel that i am even thinking of going to h&r block and getting teh 2500 loan thing lol but heh i rather wait a week or two and not lose out $300 that they will probably charge :(

I took it off dynamic.

I got the Avia Home Theater Guide DVD, and calibrated it through that, then made some more adjustments on my own.

Right now, my settings are as follows for Cable:

Digital NR: Off
DNIe: Off
Contrast: 30
Brightness: 40
Sharpness: 25
Color: 50
Tint: 50/50
Color Tone: Normal

They are a little different on DVD and Xbox360- for the 360 I have it set to game mode, which IMO looks better then the settings I tried with game mode off.

For DVD I used movie mode at first but found it was a little too dark, so I adjusted some of the settings slightly, although it's pretty close to the Movie mode defaults.

Obviously the settings won't be the same for our TV's but maybe give those settings a shot and see how it looks for you.

If you have it on dynamic, definitely take it off.

I have the exact same TV as well. But in 1080P version also. I really think you should get the matching stand either by Samsung or by Pinnacle. It's REALLY well worth it. IT would look a lot better then the non-matching ikea stand you have it on IMO. Here's a popular Calibration from avsforum that I have found that are good for starter settings. It's a starter setting from a professional calibration guy (Eliab) I believe his his name.

Here are my new recommended starter settings for Samsung HL-S displays (lamp or LED based). Don't forget that these are starting points from which to perform a more in-depth and accurate DVE user-menu calibration.

Digital NR - OFF
DNIe - Off
Mode - Movie
Contrast - 40
Brightness - 42
Sharpness - 0
Color - 45
Tint - G50/R50
Color Tone - Warm2
