Question about painting ports

Well I am about to build my first box, and it is ported. My question is, why do you have to paint the port and what kind of paint do you paint it with? Could I use regular spray paint or what?

You dont have to paint it, its just more aesthetically pleasing when you do.
If youve ever seen an enclosure with a bare mdf port it looks out of place.
You can use any paint, usually the $.97 wal mart spray paint works fine.
