I was wondering what a good head unit would be for under $300, I need an extra output for the sub, and I need a 5V. I am going to have an amp running just that head unit, and the speakers, probably going to be a 500 at the smallest, and a 1000 at the most, there are going to be 4 6.5s and some tweeters

I was looking at som PIONEER PREMIER DEH-P680MP or Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS , but I was told pioneers only put out 2-3 volts

I would recommend the 880. I installed mine a couple of weeks ago and found it to be as good as advertised.

The output voltage doesn't really play a huge part on system performance. You have a gain knob on your amp thats designed specifically so that you aren't stuck with using only a 4v signal or only a 2v signal. Use what it comes with, and adjust the amp accordingly.

Pick your head unit on other features, like whether it looks good in your car or has all the features you need.

Yes, BUT it is nice to have higher voltage pre-outs. Makes the tuning a bit easier, and the less you have to turn the gain knob up, the better because it will cause less 'white noise' when the system is on mute/turned all the way down.

But yes, properly tuned, it really doesn't matter what your voltages on the Pre-outs are.
