I was wondering why is everyone saying that Alpine head unit quality went down since 2004? There is a particular 2004 Head Unit that I was thinking about buying if I am able to find it Model CDA-9833.I know that this unit has a 1 bit DAc. However when I listened to it last year at a car audio store it sounded awesome. Based solely on SQ and not all the bells and whistles how would this unit compare to the newer 2006 Alpine with 24 bit DACs like the DVA-9861 and the new seperate processors PXA-H701?

Thanks

Well, besides Alpine, Pioneer has some great decks with great features and cheap add-ons. Not the greatest S/N numbers out there, but they are a great unit for the everyday driver.

Eclipse is also highly favored, although not nearly as aesthetically pleasing.

And most of the higher end products from each company have good specs. It's just finding one that has your ideal feautures, compatability, add-ons (i.e.-iPod, Sirius, etc...) and one you can look at and enjoy.
