I see alot of ppl with these and i'm wondering if these are a good 6.5 or just good for the price? I'm thinking of getting these and pairing them with a nice high-end / high quality(seas, vifa, rainbow,etc...) tweet. Or do i look to do something different? Don't want to spend more than 300 on the comp set if i go that route.

As long as you fix the tinsel lead problem they sound great for the price.
A popular combo is the AA polys with Vifa XT 25 tweeters

I'm running 2 sets of them and think they're very good mids, and even better when you condsider the price ;)

I've heard type s, MB Quart, and some JBL comp sets and the poly mids/vifa xt25 kills them all. I know there's better out there, but not at that price point. The Vifa tweet has a very nice sound, not too bright or laid back, just pleasing to listen to. The mids shake the crap out of my VERY deadened doors and get plenty loud.

NO tinsel lead slap problems either and I'm crossing them at 60Hz.

I would say good for the Price..... But I have Dayton RS7's in my doors and like them much better than the Poly Mids.... But, that's my opinion.....

Neo neo neo neo.... I don't particularly love neo anymore than regular magnetic materials.... Maybe I'm a prude or something....

Well.... I've never heard those.... But most of the Seas I've heard aren't too bad, but they are the more expensive ones... That is what ***** about buying parts off of other ppls suggestions or online specs. Because, a lot of people on here love those XT25's and I think they sound like garbage. But then again, I think just about everything sounds like garbage. But, I believe you.... Anyway I'm stuck up audio snob.......

like i said- fill in between an mtx 7500 (maybe 8500) 10" sub mounted up front firing into passenger foot well and id cd2 comps.

I have good power (two mtx 1004s) for my front stage and want something that will sound as good as it should. However, i don't want to spend TONS as this isn't any kind of pure SQ set-up.

the car also has a lot of processing including clarion 5.1, a 500 gig apple mini mac, a few large lcd screens, and three mtx 9500s with three 942 amps.

for the record- i'm talking about 2002-2004 xkr's, don't have new model coinage...

I'm going nuts trying to figure out my best option for a set of 6"-7" dedicated midbass drivers for the doors of my '98 CRV. I plan to bandpass them in the 60-200hZ range and I need something which will play with authority while getting 65 watts rms(per side).

I owned one of the original AA Atlas subs(the 12") and I've been using an AA Arsenal 12 for the past six months. I feel the Arsenals are outstanding SQL subs so I'm high on the quality of AA's products.

Would the AA 6.5" mid(which is actually closer to 7") be a good choice for me? Would 65 watts be enough to drive them with authority?. I need something which will provide punchy midbass and be able to go down to at least 60hZ.

I was seriously considering the Tang Band Neo 5.25" subs but I've been told that they don't deliver the punchy sound that I'm looking for.

AA Poly Mids are just that, Mids. If you want a dedicated midbass driver, look into something like the CDT M6, DD lt-6, etc.

Not saying it can't hit midbass frequencies, just saying that there are better soulutions out there for what he's looking for. He is looking to get a dedicated midbass driver, and as far as I know, the Poly Mids were made to handle a wide range of midrange frequencies. If I were in his shoes, i would go with something that was made for what I needed it to do, rather than something that will work, but was designed for a different purpose.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the feedback.

Does anyone have an educated opinion on the Kicker SSMBS 6.5" midbass drivers? I kinda like the look of them and the price is reasonable.

Here they are:

Well, I read some very mixed reviews on the Kicker SSMB6 so I decided to pull the trigger on the AA mids anyway...ordered them online several minutes ago.

The truly outstanding dedicated midbass drivers that have been mentioned(and others) are a little pricey for me at the moment and I'm not looking for earth-shattering midbass anyway. I'm fully aware that the AA mids aren't the best around but many people consider them to be one of the best bang-for-your-buck deals out there.

I'm also a big AA fan so going with their mids seems like a natural fit for me.

They'll be bandpassed in the 60-200hZ range.

Thanks again, guys!

Thanks! I sure hope so. I know Chad puts a lot of effort and pride into his products and I don't expect anything less with the poly mids.

AA Poly Mids are just that, Mids. If you want a dedicated midbass driver, look into something like the CDT M6, DD lt-6, etc.

Just my 2 cents

Given the fact that he has 65 watts per side, needs a 6.5" driver, and he was considering the so-called Kicker SS midbasses(which are meant to be SHALLOW driver solutions and don't hold a candle to the current high excursion drivers) I would say that several of these newer drivers would work.

The AA 6.5 POLY, CDT AUDIO M6, DD W6.5 Series (Not the LT version), ADIRE AUDIO EXTREMIS, MPYRE AUDIO M6 (not out yet), and some others are billed as High output, High Excursion, Low Distortion, Extended Frequency Response MidWoofers(Midrange/Midbass) drivers. Seems all will play down to the lower midbass range (60Hz) up to treble range however, all seem to have more excursion than the mid in your basic component set. I don't see a reason why any of these could not be used a dedicated midbass...and the AA Poly mids at $35 are a very good way to go given the modest power of 65Watts and the speakers good efficiency.

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4814&highlight=poly

If I were to spend more money on dedicated midbass drivers I would use no less than 100-150 watts per side. I think he made a good choice...not much more to choose from at that price point.

Unless they prepaired for this, it might be awhile before they get some more in. Seems they ran out of stock at one point early last year as well I think? I think their drivers are made overseas?

It appears that I got one of the last sets. I ordered them on Saturday afternoon and they were sent out on Monday evening. They're scheduled to arrive sometime today. I'll be keeping an eye out for the Fed Ex truck :)

If I had waited to order them on Monday then I probably would've been SOL.

I DID panic when I checked their online ordering system on Monday afternoon and everything was listed as "unavailable" except the Assassin 8's. I emailed Chad immediately and he got back to me several hours later assuring me that my set would be getting shipped out later in the day.

Phew...:veryhapp:
