last thread got flamed and cluttered, so i had it removed and i'm redoing the thread. if you want to flame the build, i am on aol instant messenger all the time, or you could shoot me a pm.

this wall is 16.94 ft^3 gross, should be around 12.5 ft^3 after port/sub displacement. it's tuned to 30hz right now, but we will probably raise tuning a little once we have access to a termlab. it will hold two fully-loaded 18" btls (dual 1 :()

the "unveiling" of the wall will be saturday, december 30th at the caraudio.com 1st annual florida meet in clearwater. the credit for the build goes to jon @ epicenter designs who did all of the labor.

When ten people aren't helping with the build, you set the jack on the dance floor and "raise the roof"

http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_jack_stand_top.jpg

Built the frame for the walls and started throwing them in. Here's a pic of the first side wall that went up.

Here's the "frame" and how the back walls went together.

The other side pieces were cut and put in, which allowed us to remove the temporary bracing that was holding the top up.

Two more layers added to the floor :)

http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_glue_3rd_bottom.jpg

This is with the bottom, the lower back wall, the upper back wall and the top all glued and screwed with 3 layers of 3/4" MDF. At this point, four full sheets of MDF have been used.
http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_logo_high_in_wall.jpg

This is the outside of the first wall layer all glued up and ready for more MDF.

http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_pass_side_wall_glued_2nd.jpg

2nd layer added and pre-drilled holes to secure it.

http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_pass_side_wall_2nd_on.jpg

Kenny Pollock
12-23-2006, 11:01 PM
On that 2nd layer, 2x4s were used to help solidify it since they are the biggest of the walls in this box. Then, 1 last layer of MDF was added.

Here is how thick the sides are:

http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_pass_side_wall_thicknes.JPG

And the last layer on the sides and as seen through the window:

The passenger-side side:

The port was drawn:

Better view of the [now finished] driver-side side:
http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_driver_side_inside_look.jpg

Here's how it looks from the driver's door:
http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_box_seen_drivers_side.jpg

Allthread now goes through the back wall of the wall:
http://epicenterdesigns.com/photo-gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_all_thread_on_back_wall.jpg

And through a piece of MDF (behind a piece of metal which separates trunk from the cabin):

Combo of things...I had a scuba diving mishap awhile back and recently it just got worse due to a head injury. I'm probably going to get surgery if I get any hassel from the navy even though I already passed quals...

I think my original design looked better. And the fiberglass on it would have been sick.
But since it wouldn't fit in the space I had to work with, I settled on this.

And since time is running out, the fiberglass on this will be minimal for now.

Jon, after we got off the phone, I talked to Shawn Fleming... he said he'd do the crimping for me if I wired them up... so on Thursday when I'm up there remind me to ask you how you think we should arrange the batteries.

It might be easier to bring the batteries back and play around with size/placement ourselves to be honest... I'll take the drive to Shawn's though, since we really should be tuning it before the meet.

Yes it's my daily driver...

How is it impractical?

I don't normally drive more than one passenger, and I love musicHow is it impractical? You don't need 2 18 inch subwoofers in a wall to enjoy music....in fact, it's far from an SQ install obviously. (Not that it won't sound good) When I get in my car I prefer to enjoy it's handling characteristics and be able to drive it how it was meant to be. I have had a wall in a vehicle, and the weight of it just makes the car no fun at all. It will also tear through axles if your car is FWD. I'd rather have 1 15 slamming in the trunk and be able to enjoy my car's limits than suffer the performance depreciation and hundreds of added lbs a system adds.

But I'm not knocking, just stating why I feel it's impractical...to each his own, and awesome looking install so far. :)

Kenny Pollock
12-27-2006, 12:59 AM
I was just having fun... I know it's not practical...

But I get thrills going to these non-sanctioned competitions... cannot wait to compete in Bass Race.

I plan on redoing the suspension (air bags) in the near future..going to save up to redo the interior and all first.

If everything goes according to plans guys, I will have my TermLab running on Friday sometime with pics/videos/numbers :)

It's good to see you keep your car up to support your system...that is something that not enough audio enthusiasts do. The airbags will be awesome for carrying around all that weight....might wanna look into an intake/exhaust or anything else you can do to help on fuel economy too. :D

I wish I didn't do any of the body work beforehand... this project would've been done a long time ago ;) The car used to look like ****... rusted body, silver/tan, stock (rust color) rims, yellow carpet (that was supposed to be gray), headlights with no visibility whatsoever, no tint or alarm.. kinda glad that's all out of the way though.

I had the stock exhaust done:
before:

after:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/58/168518492_f9699033e3.jpg

And I might do an aftermarket intake, I can't do a true CAI because my car sits so low already.

Thanks :) I plan on putting big *** LCDs on the sides of the walls in the near future... just for show, and to add to the impractical-ness of my wall, heh

I'm jealous...I'd ride down but I'll be in pasco all day, but I do get to pick up my new car...install my equipment all night tomorrow and box build all day friday...

...and I poked fun at you guys for waiting to the last minute :uhoh:*****, but i'll see you saturday

I'm sitting in the airport to come home from Philly now...

The agenda:
Arrive home at 1 PM or so (south Florida)
Unpack my suitcase and do my laundry
Repack, bringing my 8 megapixel camera, laptop, clothes and BTL
Go the Greyhound bus station at 3:30 PM
Bus leaves at 4:30 PM, arrives in Bradenton, FL at 9:10 PM
Get picked up, take pics of the wall so far, help with whatever they're working on
Wake up in the morning, take door panels off so they can work on door pods
I'm driving to Shawn's house to pickup my batteries
Driving back to Bradenton to reattach door panels and finishing everything
Metering the system!

And then of course on Saturday, the meet

Thats all the pics I have. Kenny took alot more than me, but he is at Shawns right now.

Kenny was in the box holding the magnet while Justin and I worked the outside. Well that was on the first one. The second one was a little easier to do since it rtested on the floor.
Still wasn't easy that way either.

what size is his box? cu ft wise? im wondering if something like this would fit in the extended cab of my truck, but i wouldnt want a wall, it would just need to be a box, i had a 7 cubic foot box back there no problem with plenty of room left, it held my 2 idmax's, id like to put 2 12" btl's back there now, i hit a 144.x with them(id max's) in my first box but it was a bit off and my one amp wasnt putting out full power, how would the btls compare?

iamamp3pimp
12-29-2006, 01:50 PM
theyd prolly be louder

dinty01
12-29-2006, 02:02 PM

Left Shawns not too long ago, I'm on I-75 going south.... 138 more miles to Jons.

I only sold two blue tops for Shawn so he and I built a battery box in the spare tire well for 6 blue tops.

When I get to Jons we need to put the 7th blue top under the hood and wire up the batteries in the back.

Pictures later if I can get on the computer to do some uploading.
