View Full Version : Need help designing a Ported Box for a TC 1000 12"

I have always built sealed type enclosures in the past. Since i have around 2cuft to work with, so I would like to try my hand at building a vented box design.

I'm looking for a ported box with good SQ, and tight bass when needed.

Here are the specs of my design.

Net Internal Volume: 2.12cuft
Cross section of port: 7"x 2.25" = 15.75 sqin
Total Lenth of Port 19.625
Fb = 30hz

I realy cant make the box any bigger the 2cuft do to space limitations.
I listen mainly to rock type music. From what i have read around on the net a Fb of 30hz is a good spot for SQ.

For the ported box builder out there, is this a good design?
Are my calculations correct on this design, does the volume, tuning checkout?

I'm probably going to start building it within the next week. I'll be sure to post some pics of the work log.

Thanks for the help.

I did not calculate the specs but according to TCsounds they recommend a box that is 3 cubes ported. You might try and use pvc pipe or an aeroport for your port because they usually take up less internal space. The 4 inch aeroport from partsexpress.com is about 17 inches long and if you put that in the box without cutting it you would have a box that is about 2.1 cubes tuned to 28 hz which would work. You could fire the port out the side which works great. I would tune under 30 hz if possible to make up for the smaller box.
