i've got a pioneer 7800 with 22 wrms x 4. would this be okay to run a AA poly mid in each door? or should i get an external amp? and any amp recomendations if i need one?

If your going to use the AA poly mids i would deff. get an external amp otherwise look into cheaper speakers that take less power, also the poly mids are just mids so you will most likely want to run some tweeters also.

I wouldn't do that to those beautiful little speakers.....

get a cheap 2 channel jbl or massive amp to run TWO aa poly mids ...

using this kind of speaker in the back is a waste unless you are going surround sound...

just run stock rear speakers off of the hu

well good luck

that's a great idea. But the thing is i have a stock amp and would have to bypass it and if i can get the rear speakers to work then they all should work, it's complicated. but if that if i can get to were that's a possibility i will do that.

HU power gets em nice and loud. Get an amp though.

i'm assuming you are going ahead with the pioneer 7800 in your sig

i would use the pioneer hu to power the stock rear speakers

buy a 4 channel amp (jbl, memphis, massive...etc) to power two aa poly mids and some good tweeters- some of my favorite budget tweets are lpg 25nfa, lpg 26 na, seas neo metal, b&g neo 3, etc-these can be bought at madisound.com)

this way you can completely bypass the stock amp and get great sound.....well....at least a start (it all depends on the install)

i have some stock tweeters. just not sure if i should replace them or not. couldn't i run the tweeters off the HU since they draw less power?

you definately can, despite what people say imho 5 watts is enough to get almost any dome tweeter plenty loud.... (don't know about horns or ribbons )

anyways, you could run the tweets and the rears off of the hu and the polys off of a 2 channel amp, just make sure you set the crossovers right.. active setups can be tricky ;)

not very hard, just get a sheep of mdf, cut a 6 x 9 baffle and cut a hole in the middle for a 6.5" speaker

i'd just give it 100 rms, i'm sure it can take more but it won't be necessary, more power is fine as long as you set the gains properly.

okay, so would a kicker kx 200.2 rated at 85 x 2 at 4 ohms be a good amp for two AA mids in the front doors with the hu powering the rear doors and tweeters?

also, what else do i need besides the mids and the amp, of course wire but anything else?

the ability to set active crossovers and tune the speakers to make them sound best in YOUR car.

(that pioneer p7800 that you are getting has built in time alignment/eq/ and
crossover)

besides that you're good to go

no problem, but i gotta warn you, running active isn't easy, go on diymobileaudio.com for some help and do a little research

I've used a couple of the Profile AP amps and have had good luck with them. Don't get hot, no noise, and seem to put out decent power.

The poly mids don't require much power. I'm running mine active with a Helix Dark Blue 4 channel rated at 60wpc and gain is up about 1/2 way for the mids, less than a 1/4 for the LPG tweets.

Chad recommends you bandpass the mids 80-2500Hz if using the LPG tweeter AA sells. I recently dropped the HP to 60Hz and these things put out even more midbass punch. Of course I have 2 in each door :D

Sounds like you're on the right path...
