View Full Version : 3.5 cubes @ 36 hz 15" mojo build...couple pics.

here's a temporary box i threw together for my 15" mojo until my toxic bass design is complete...powered by a BX1505 until CIA has repaired my Herc.

beginning design:

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/mojo2.jpg

3.5 cubes tuned to 36ish hz....60 in^2 of port.

pieces cut...

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj.jpg

all sides doubled up....

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj001-1.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj002-1.jpg

yea i know...a little ghettofied but i was running low on clamps at the time...lol

no build pics because honestly this box wasn't pretty. nor was it meant to be. i just wanted something SOLID that would hold me over until i get the chance to build the ttb design.

finished product...

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj003-1.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj004-1.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/Lil_KB/uigfuiuj005-1.jpg

i know...nasty looking....it had a couple unflush edges and a few split ends from not predrilling far enough as you can see...the bit wasn't long enough for working with doubled baffles...

it might not be clean but it is DEFINITELY the most solid box i've built to date...i think i used more screws and glue in this box than i have in all my other builds combined...lol. its definitely heavier than the others... it's also internally braced with two 2"x4"s.

tomorrow it'll be carpeted, and everything should be installed...vids possibly. :)

let me know what you think.

yup...i realized that soon after...that's why i haven't made the cutout yet. :D

it's gonna be placed dead in the middle which should put it as close as possible to the ports end opening...isn't that what i should shoot for?

I always shoot for the sub as far away from the port openin inside the box as possible.

so you're trying to say put the sub all the way on the side closest to the OUTSIDE port opening?

****, I kinda wish I didn't buy a couple TRF 15's, because I want to run mojos.Implulse buy lol.**** though.

I'm not a fan of their turn around time, or the fact that pete gave a few (like 4-5 known?) the same design and told them it was designed specifically for them.Besides the fact he tries to make **** sound more than what it is.

ray@ss

The purpose of a load wall is to stop any "bad vibes" from the back side of the cone and the vent opening..

basically a board that "blocks" between the back side of the cone and the port opening.

yup...i just bought it from gotslap on ROE....i listened to his pair on a memphis 4kw before....they are pretty d*mn loud....i'm really happy with mine so far...a lot of people told me they sound like ***, maybe its just me but i am really happy with the sq considering it is an SPL based sub.

hopefully i'll be adding a twin later on when funds allow...

i agree toxic bass is a little slow, but imo if it gains me a little spl its worth the wait...

i've never heard of pete doing that...not calling you a liar or anything...it's just the first time i've heard it...but i notice he does exaggerate a lot, either way it seems like he has a lot of knowledge when it comes to designing, etc so i'm willing to trust him...

ahh i gotcha now ray....thanks for filling me in on that, i wouldve incorporated it into this build but its already complete and i don't really wanna go through the hassle of deconstruction, adding more wood (which i'm out of....lol) and then reglueing and screwing.

I see alot of split wood.

Meh. I feel bad for the sub too

nah this isn't my first box...i've built about 5 or 6.

to be honest this whole build was in a rush....one of those "looks doesn't matter" situations.

my first box actually looked wayyy better than this one...lol.

Most people will say any sub sounds like ***, unless it's the great fi btl

Anyway, they can get loud, yes.I've heard them in a few set-ups, and they actually can sound pretty good. It's all about the set-up.The mian set-up I heard (best one of them) had plenty of mid/high to keep up.

I would've never thought about it, but when someone made a thread and showed off a design, 2 people chimed in about getting that same one, I knew of a 3rd who only posted on the ttb forum, and then there was a 4th that was a mod. on there.God knows how many other people got it.

The world would be a pretty boring place if everyone drove the same car. Isn't it pretty boring to see the same speaker box over and over, his box is unique.

Don't be led astray by anyone. It is ugly. The multi-tone wood, the funky port, and the 4x4 posts =

Is it just temporary, right?

lol....yes...very temporary. i was in a rush to get it all installed.

i had leftover wood from the last box, and the new sheet was a different tone for some reason.

tomorrow i'm redoing the legs, installing L brackets instead of 4x4 posts to hold it in place, and carpeting it.

either way it's only gonna be in maybe 2 weeks max. the next one i'll actually take my time with.

but as i said from the beginning this box wasn't meant to be good looking, perfectly straight, or any of that good ****....it was just meant to be solid, sturdy, and sealed well. the plan was just to let the carpet cover up the flaws....

Threw it in my old box for the BTL just for shits and giggles, and i like it. 4.5 cubes @ 33ish.

same box the btl was in....after the overratedness and box rise, i'd be confident in saying half the power....i'm not gonna state what i think about the two head to head b/c i'd probably get jumped immediately by the Fi nuthuggers...so opinions are up to you.

well i know that it worked...when the titebond gave out the baffle was slapping back and forth and there was a 1/8" gap of an air leak when it was at rest...

and i put a screw every 4-5" and now it sure holds together strong and doesn't leak any air....

Then I'd say that the joint wasn't set properly. It should be next to impossible to blow out a joint of woodglue, and screws won't help that.

Yea when glue is properly bonded it will rip the MDF into 'layers' not seperate into the two original pieces.
