Beefy horns to match

Hmmm... Wutz n da box? Could it be a beefy amp?

I have some Ascendant Audio Poly mids that I will be comparing these DD mids too also. Power will be from a Zapco 350.2

I'll write up a review between the two and let yall know. Gotta wait till my new horn bodys to come in first. That is all for now

in all seriousness though, the horn motors weigh more than the mids, I think the mids weigh about 6lb's each too. Amp for the horns is a ARC cxl or something, just a nice 50 watt amp. Later on down the road I wanna sell the zapco and ARC and get the DD S4 4 Channel amp to match my Z1. It should give the horns about 50 watts at 8ohms and the mids 200 @ 4ohms and that should be one wangin' front stage.

Now I gotta go order my wiring and sound deadening. Where can I get some kicker hyper flex stuff?!?

I always wanted to try those out.

How do you like them?

I don't know yet haven't had a chance to hook them up, need to wire and deaden every thing first. I am not even sure these bastards will fit in my doors so I might have to do some modding/fiberglassing these, but I will let yall know ASAP, because I am just about ready for this system to go in. But for looks they get a 10

horns=loud, might want 8" midbasses? maybe even 2 8s per door by the looks of those horns :).

You must not know the capabilities of a DD 6.5 Long Throw to think he needs an 8....lol

I'm gonna try to invert my set in my CRX...It may not work....but if it does I'll let you know how it turns out....I'm also considering 6.5 spacer rings....I hope to start the 6.5 LT project on the CRX next week :)

12-10-2006, 03:19 AM
Why would you want to invert mids?

12-10-2006, 03:31 AM
To make them fit when mounting depth is too shallow...They will work...just reverse the phase at the amplifier....

holy big magnets batman! looks sweet as hell!

Kicks and or spacing rings>inverted mids.

They should have a warning on those horns... " listening to these at high volume will quarentee hearing problems use at your own descretion"

how much did you pay for those dd mids and how much for the horns and what type are they?

12-10-2006, 11:08 AM
The DD mids are about 150 new each. I paid 300 for the horns used I believe. I can't remember that was well over a year ago lol.

Looking forward to your comparison.

One PLUS to the AA poly mids is the smaller magnet, MUCH easier to install.

12-10-2006, 11:51 AM
I am pretty sure these will beat the AA's in out put lol. Its SQ that I am talking about.

I am considering rings....or some spacing....They may stick out too far inverted anyway....Kicks are out of it completely....;) No room for globe...lol

Sweeeeeet. Count me in on that deal!

To answer the question earlier these horns are Image Dynamics CD 3 ultra horns

12-10-2006, 07:03 PM
Will do
I liked the sound of my polys over my DD 6.5's

12-10-2006, 07:42 PM
Hmm. I am more of an output guy, so we shall see what I perfer. I dont quite have the ear for SQ. All I know is what wang's chung and what doesnt. Thanks for that sweet deal on the kicker wire 100ft o' kicker ftmfw

I wouldn't recommend it unless you were going to lowpass them very low.

I wish I had the cash for a DD S4 so I could have matching amps lol.
