View Full Version : Time for another AZ meetup?

Tempe

I guess I had just missed the last one. I'd love to get out and meet the local car audio nuts! I know there aren't many comps in the area, and I'm planning on driving down to SoCal this summer. For now I'd like to get something going. It doesn't have to be anything formal. We could meet up for lunch somewhere... maybe Hooters :)

It would be nice to see and hear everyone's systems. Mine has never been visually appealing. To me as long as it sounds good I'm happy. My next install will actually look decent.

Anything in the Phoenix area is fine, although I'd be willing to Tuscon. Anyone up for it?

What does that matter? The more people the better!!! Maybe one of the locals will bring some old stuff for sale for you at a cheep price! Maybe before you spend $$$$$$ on a new system you might get an idea from a system of someone who showed up and you may go a totally different route!

If at all possible I'd like to schedule this with a little advance since I'm sure this will happen on the weekened and I tend to work weekends :(

Should be hookin' up my custom TC9 to an Orion XTR1000 this weekend. So yeah, I'd prefer the following weekend so I can have all my **** together. :)

SHiZNiLTi
12-08-2006, 02:24 AM
Sweet, how old is that XTR1000? Whats that TC9 handle? Can it take more then 1000rms?

I've got an Orion Xtreme 1200 from 99' in the back of my ride right now. The amp kicks ***, but I'll probably take it out and put back in the PA 2250.

We should hook up the TC9 to the 2250 and see how it take 2000rms :D

What ohm is the TC9?

I was going to get a Q 12 a few months ago just before they got popular. Then I moved, then broke up with the gf, and moved again... out here. Life has settled down. I'm going to upgrade my front stage first. I'm most likely going to get a Q 10 with a goal of impressive bass with a 10 and a killer enclosure!

A firend of mine has a 10 w7 and allways suprises people when he tells them what he has. Still doesnt hit as hard as my type R's but does pound the lows very well with the box being tuned at 32hz.

Dunno how old the amp is - I just picked it up earlier this week from shallofu

The TC9 is a dual 2, and I'm pretty sure 2000wrms wouldn't be the best thing to do. :) The sub is rated at 1200rms and the Orion can supposedly push about 1300 although it's only rated at 1000.

A lot of people have criticized their tweeters as being rather harsh. I have not heard them so I cannot comment. Your best bet is to read a lot. For me I go on many different forums. Some forums get stuck on certain brands, while other forums focus on other brands. For example go to carstereos.org and you will hear nothing but love for RE and Adire & hate for ED. Go to ICIX and get love for ED. Some forums like Soundsplinter while others don't. Some forums focus more on the pre-made component sets, while a few out there focus more on going DIY (buying individual speakers making your own passives or buying an active crossover).

You sound like you are indecisive and are wanting to explore what is out there. Be patient and make an educated decision. Come to local meetups (come on guys we gotta do this!!!) and listen to what people have in their cars. Find one you like and use that as a baseline. I have RE comps and a RE HC 15 in a huge ported box tuned looooow. You might hear mind and look for products that will give you a sound similar to mine. In that case you can make a post asking what speakers sound like the RE comps, or which ones sound similar but don't have a harsh tweeter :) Then again you might hear my sub and think the loooow lows are too much and you're looking for something more like a 10 in a small sealed box.

If you don't get out and listen to a variety of systems you would have no idea what you want out of your system.

Also where are pix of shiznilti's enclosure?

Once we get a date set I might roll in my Cavillac, as I have a T110D2 and 4 RF punch coaxials all powered off a T3002.

It hits pretty good for what kind of power it gets.

My subwoofer enlcosure design log...

I'm starting the paint job, so far I've rounded all the edges of the box and sanded it
using 80 grit and slopped some wood filer on all the cut edges. After the wood filler
dries I'll smooth it down with 230 grit and begin the primer stage by brushing it on.

Miniwax Sanding Sealer Primer(brush on)
4 cans of Gloss Black Lacquer for wood
1 can automotive clear - didnt use it

Ha, more AZ people! Yes!

Hopefully I can find someone to wire my impala up lol I'll supply the beer :D I'm keeping it stock with the headunit, and throwing in a 15" XXX (the older one).

I think my head unit went bad though, not sure....either that or I can't set gains on a amp to save my life. Blew my MTX 5500 (The crappiest sub ever, btw).

Funny side story...you guys know Unique Car Audio over in Gilbert? A while back I got a used 12w3v2 and after about a month, it quit working. Testing to see if it was blown while the car was on, I found out you had to press the cone down to make it work. Long story short, that crap got old hella fast when it would stop working during traffic lol. So I called up Unique, and asked what I could do since the tinsel lead was seperated. They said it would be fine to hook up the amps wiring to the voice coil, instead of the connection part. So I do all of this, and about a week later I'm listening to the sub and it just dies. So I try the push cone thing, and notta. I take the sub out and the voice coil is COMPLETELY burned (one of 'em), and the other is burned but still hanging on by a thread.

I set my gains relatively low though, which is the odd thing. On my head unit (A pioneer DEH4800), I had the bass I believe at +3, and the 'lows' setting at like +4.
I bought the amp off of a former Rockford Employee though, and it I believe is remanufactured :furious: I like it though, its yet to cut out on me (Its a T4004).

Wow....sorry to ramble. I need sleep :crap:
