View Full Version : Polyfill - can't find a definite answer

I've searched the boards cause this topic has been covered a few times already but can't seem to find a definite answer. I have a Rockford T1 in a 2.75 cu ft. ported enclosure (32 hz) and I'm thinking about adding polyfill to it this weekend. I have seen on many posts that its used for sealed enclosures, but what are the effects on a ported enclosure? Will it change tuning frequency at all? Will I gain or lose dB's? I read something about it will lower my peak by about 3 dB's. Still kind of unsure about using it.

From my experiance pollyfill makes no differance. But if you have some laying about, you should try it and see for yourself. I cant see it gaining you dB's.

You can use polyfill in a ported enclosure but i cant remember why..
As for it not making a difference, thats not correct at all.

I said that I have never found it to make a difference. I did not say that other people wouldnt also.

I've taken the liberty of modeling your enclosure (note this is raw response, not factoring in cabin gain) Red trace is your box now, green is the response after adding fill (about a pound).
My rule of thumb about using fill in vented boxes, if it sounds too boomy, try it with fill, it should smooth it out somewhat, fill can make an enclosure sound better, it will never make it louder.
