Have you checked out kenwood? Check out all the stats of the 7800, cd5000, cd7000 and compare them to the kenwood excelon x790,x890,x990. I just had the exact same debate. Pioneer vs ecclipse vs kenwood. End result = I ordered kenwood. You gotta be careful with the cd5000 b/c a lot of amps dont accept preout voltages above 4-5 volts. while that has an 8volt. Just some food for thought.

Ive used an eclipse on an amp that has a low imput voltage, had no problems. Im about to try 16V with my BLA :up2somet:
I wouldnt take a kenwood over a CD7000.

Ill look in that thread, but does anyone know if the area map has street names or a way to input where your going?

it's kinda gay, basically, you log into the Eclipse website. Register your HU, and then you can input the starting address and ending address of where you want to go. Then you download a file, and input that file into your HU, using CD or mem stick.

Every time you want to go somewhere different, you have to do this entire process. I thinks it's just too dam much trouble. But it does have a pretty cool N/S/E/W direction Arrow.:eyebrow:

Just installed my CD7000 last night. Only had about an hour to play w/ it, but figured out most of the items... the hardest being switching to 3-way.

I previously owned a CD8454 (04 top model). The sound quality is improved like crazy (Eclipse amps have 8v sensitivity, they are left like that from my 8454 w/ mids turned to approx 5-6v). I haven't even adjusted the gains (safe since it's on "0 gain"). I will take time this weekend to adjust the gains properly and see where it lies. So far, I'm VERY happy w/ the unit.

The GPS Antenna can be added to the directions from Area Shot automatically change... otherwise I think you can press a button to go to "next direction". Basically, it's mapquest on crack =O

Alright, appreciate it. Now the possibility of a carputer has entered my mind.:yumyum:

Just curious. Why compare a mid level Pioneer (Premier) with Eclipse's flagship.??:eyebrow: If you want to comapre the 2 why not weigh the Eclipse 7000 to the Premier 880 or 980?? That would be more even I would think. Personally the 880 is a much better bang for the buck than the 7000. Might as well compare apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.

BoondockSaints

I liked the looks... and didnt want 980 because its just extra money for the bluetooth. I dont know how much I really like the look of the 880 myself. And the aesthetics of the head unit is a big thing for me I guess.

11-16-2006, 08:41 PM
You dont use it in competition **** tho do you?

Also, Im afraid of putting it in and then having it jacked by the scallywags around here. :up2somet:

Randy Savage
11-16-2006, 08:42 PM
No, I don't compete anymore.

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 08:44 PM
Do you use the flipout touch screen/mounted/or in dash double din one?

Oh and do you have a thread of where you built that bad boy I wanna see some picturas!

www.cardomain.com/id/snova031

It's the Blue HHR, Pathfinder is my old truck

I created a bunch of threads a while back...do an advanced search for 'carputer' with my screen name and you should find em...

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 08:51 PM
Looks pretty nice man. Do you have your system directly linked up to the carputer? Or do you have a CD player that links up to it too?

Randy Savage
11-16-2006, 08:54 PM
I don't have a system. Stock speakers are ran through an Alpine amp that hooks up to the PC's sound card.

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 08:58 PM
Ah gotcha, If I wanted to be able to still do comps and the such and have a whole system running through there would it require a CD player?

Randy Savage
11-16-2006, 09:00 PM
No, not necessarily.

You can always use a DVD drive though. I have one but have yet to actually install the drive...

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 09:04 PM
Yah I was looking at mp3car.com they had the Xenarc flip screen with the custom built in DVD drive, that looked real clean. I was considering doing something like that, buying the flipscreen installing the DVD in it, then building the carputer with a massive HD and such. Then having either an old Eclipse or lower end one. I just dont know if I have the space for it... cuz I cant tell if my truck is double din... Its weird.

EDIT: Although Im pretty sure its not, Crutchfield when I did what fits your car, said I couldnt fit in the double din vid screens.

Thats what it looks like :fyi:

Except the lil airbag thing thats right next to the radio is actually above in the lil triangle tihng is, and that area is empty. Im considering finding a console to put inbetween my seats instead of wasting space with a seat no one sits in... except sometimes girls sit there and its nice...

Randy Savage
11-16-2006, 09:28 PM
That's a GM din and a half. You'd have to modify the dash to fit a double din.

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 09:33 PM
Bah hum bug... stupid half. Are those flip outs full dims or more?

Randy Savage
11-16-2006, 09:34 PM
I haven't really looked at them but I'd imagine they are single dins...

BoondockSaints
11-16-2006, 09:47 PM
Im gonna find away to do it. :up2somet:

I swear.

BoondockSaints
11-17-2006, 01:10 AM
I think Im gonna try and fab a center console for my truck, the middle seat is too small anyways. People can sit in the back, ****it.
