okay i lied.

here are the pics of the progress that we have made so far.

That is the original carpet job that sat on the floor before we started. looking boughetto, right?

and the mounting points for the front of the wall. the front is just there for support, and it doesnt provide much else. It is the rear bolts tha thold everything ins

here is some of the mounting hardware holding the bottom in place

the bottom piece is bolted to the car, and the rest are connected using massive amounts of glue and screws.

Building off the idea of 2x4's, and knowing that there will be a beauty panel in front of the wall, makes this part easy

what i ended up with

laid down some liquid nails because it seemed like a good idea. NO, i am not expecting the liquid nails to adhere to the metal car, but more to act as an insulator in case of any unwanted resonances take place between that sheet of metal, and the bottomside of the box itself.

small piece of seat belt bolt sticking out that we couldnt get the nuts that we had to witrk with. I just shaved the other one off completely.

just messin around.

anyway here is where we are at now with progress, and it doesnt seem like much, but 3 hours of work isnt all that bad, seeing as how we had to go from planning to cutting and buiilding....it isnt bad at all

just a brief list of what ive spent/still have to get (and im missing alot of things still, like resin for the inside of the box, etc)

10x sheets of mdf---------------215
40ft of 2x4s------------------------11
mounting materials---------------67
8x eminence alpha 6a mids----232
8x eminence apt80 tweeters--168
4x 15" re mts--------------------1400
4x dual 1 ohm recones----------305
2x 15" baskets-----------------------0
84ft of kicker 1/0 wire------------180
4x turbostart 16v batteries-----400

havent bought all the mdf yet, nor the amps, nor the wire. everything else is paid for. its getting expensive, but i think itll be worth it.

EDIT: we are working on it this coming up monday the 27th, and robin said he wants to get the sides up, so hopefully we can provide some interesting pics monday night (or 3 weeks later since robin likes to wait forever to post pics)

I'd like to suggest using Trupane as opposed to MDF. It is a type of MDF that is lighter. IMO it cuts nicer as well. When building large panels and what not the lighter weight is kind of nice.

price per sheet?

im prally not gonna use it though, as its most likely more (like birch) and im not concerned about weight in this car...

Its similar in price to MDF and its not like birch. I find it here at the local lumber yard where they refer to it as MDF. There was a thread about trupane a while back let me try and find it for ya.

I have more ppics to post up. the Dancefloor is in, and now i can focus on building the box, weither it be inside, or outside of the car. There is still a bit of mounting hardware that i plan to add, but we were running short on time, and had to finish up early.

as you know, we had to build the floor of the truck to be equal with the highest point of the floor. we ended up using 2x4's and MDF, in alternating layers to achieve the right level of height.

here we go with the pics.

iamamp3pimp

Good job so far guys,

resin, prally 2x4s...im not doing allthread. spent enough money as it is. and robin made me buy a hotdog today for him:mad:

but that floor, with the 2x4 layers in between the mdf, is so solid you wouldnt believe it, you have to see it in person and hit it with a hammer or something....

we had to lay down a 1/4 inch piece of hardboard because it looked as if nothing else would make it completely level. im loving it so far, bu wanting to get more into the actual build, ad opposed to the buildup.

Run the wiring along the frame on the passenger side and up through one of the plugs in the floor. Dont go drivers side.

u mean on the outside?

explorer2
11-27-2006, 09:28 PM
Yep, It would be very easy to run them in the frame rails and up through one of the rubber body plugs, drivers side wouldnt be good because of fuel/brake lines and the gas tank is in the way. passengers side is clear all the way.

pimpedout97x
11-27-2006, 09:29 PM
theres room inside to run the wire. we already have that planned out and its going to work perfect. im prally only gonna have 1 or 2 runs max from the alt to the batts, the batts and amps will be in the back, thats less running of 1/0...

it can be unbolted, sure, but itll be alot of work. but i dont plan on ever changing it. the subs will get changed before the wall does...there shouldnt be a reason to change it though or take it out.

as promised :)

we only got the bottom, sides, and top done today, although robin got all the pieces cut for the wall and port (include the double top, back, and front baffles)

we would have got the back on today, but we ran out of time cuase were both morons and when we measured the height, we measured from the lowest point on my headliner, obviously, but we measured from the middle. the sides of my headliner above the doors curves down, and its like 1.5" lower than the lowest point in the middle....we didnt notice until we had both sides glued and screwed in ....so that took up some time. anyways heres 5 pics, the rest are on robins camera.

btw, its very sturdy...im loving it so far. its about 19 cubes after displacement...(was about 20 until we had to trim the height down) and its tuned to 35hz. tell me what you guys think!

Had to redesign the wall because of that

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/pimpedout97x/build12-4024.jpg

Side with the top runner boards on.putting the top on this one was a beech

part one, of the top completely covered in glue, waiting fopr part 2

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/pimpedout97x/build12-4026.jpg

overkill FTW
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/pimpedout97x/build12-4028.jpg

the top in full

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/pimpedout97x/build12-4041.jpg

I wish we got more work done, but the wall was too tall at first, as we easured in the wrong spot.all that means is that we had to make a little change in the height...taking an inch and a half off the top

as always, i took a few ****** pics just to tease you guys, and robin has the better pics, which you will prally see in a few months since he never posts pics in this thread lol, but heres 3 pics i took.

basically today we got the port in, painted (only 1st coat), and we got the left side of the front baffle in (both baffles though)...we ran out of time and couldnt get the right side on, although the pieces are cut.

im going back wed. which will be another 8am-2pm work day, and thursday will be the biggie....all day we have to work...alot will get done thursday for sure.

we could have put the back baffles on today, but it would make it hella hard to access **** up front so were gonna wait til the end. again all the pieces are cut though.

im very happy the way its turning out. i cant wait til its done :)

those runner boards werent worth a **** when all was said and done, as they caused more of a problem than anything else, and they were removed from the port.

Hey chevy, were you talking about the subs? They are going to be flush I believe when the 3rd baffle goes on (the "beaty panel") that goes from the top to floor (to cover the 2x4's)

But everything else will be double baffled, the sides as best as we can...

Thursday or wed. I'm prally gonna run the wire along the sides, I just got my 100 ft of 1/0.

thats all the pics for now.....there will be more come Wednesday. At first, the port seemed a tad wobbly in there. i mean its wedged in there really nice, but when you tap it in the middle, it had that bongo drum sound. i am sure you know what i mean. When we but the front piece on th eone side, there is a reasonable difference between the side with a baffle on it, and the side withiut. But i dont want any resonance, so im going to have to brace the wall with some Meade style 2x4's on the port.

I think even with double baffle everything the wall would still look weak. Thats just me and you guys can go about building as you wish, it wont change my opinion, nor yours, so it really has no point in being talked about.

Kenny has his under control I am sure. We both have talked to quite a few people about that subject as well as plenty of others to try and get his wall to the best it can be.

Exactly, I dont care how sturdy it seems, even after its doubled up, I guarantee even if you cant move it, 4 15's with a few thousand watts will move it easily. I would definately throw some allthread in that *****, it will be easy and it will definately keep the flex out.
