View Full Version : 4th order box for 4 eD 9Kv.2's, designed by 80INCHES **PICS and VIDS**

OK, I had 80INCHES design a 4th order BP for my quartet of 9Kv.2's.... I had them in a sealed box, 1.4cf, and was happy with the output (139.1 @ dash on TL), but wanted to try something different...

After a couple days of listening, I'm pretty pleased with the results.... definitely louder than the sealed setup and hits MUCH harder, rock is pretty awesome. The subs are still taking the full 1200w and not having a problem with it. The lows are nice and, again, louder than with the sealed box. Overall, the setup has a fuller sound.

Low pass is set to 80Hz, SSF to 30Hz, but I'm going to play with backing the SSF down a bit to see if I can get some more lows out of it

Played some Lil Jon, Ying Yang twins, etc.... obviously the strong suit for this design. No complaints!

The videos below were shot playing Late Night Tip and Georgia Dome.

Questions, comments?

Nothing wrong with 60" of port.

So ****. I don't see how you attached the port to the front.

How'd you do it?

Glued & clamped to the front baffle, then used a flush bit on the router to cut it out... and then 1/2" roundover bit :)

The video of the hat in the port turned out pretty cool... I couldn't keep the bottle of water on the sunroof long enough to get a good video LOL

For whatever reason too, the roof flex didn't show up very well in the video... in person it looks like it's coming off :D

So it seems that 80 CAN design a box that will actually fit together LOL Thanks again!

wow that box looks ridiculously smooth
u said this box is louder than your old sealed box,
do u think your over the 139db thats posted in your sig
because u did that number in a sealed box, i'm actually anxieous as to what u will
hit with those 8's in a bandpass

Thank you :)

Yeah, I'm comparing it to the box that's in my sig...

It's very noticeably louder to the ear than the sealed setup, but I can't be sure if that will equate to louder on the mic/sensor. Hopefully around the 1st of the year I'll be able to get it metered again and see :)

ok i was just wondering
i think u will be louder on the mic
because u actually went from a sealed box to a bandpass
so u put the subs in a more efficient box so in theory u should be louder
do u think those 8's can take alittle more than 1200watts?:naughty:

IonSQL

I might be able to give them a LITTLE more, but not too much. From what I could see on some songs, like Georgia Dome, they were preffy much maxed out as far as movement goes.

I know they can take more thermally, but I may be close to the mechanical limits.

Only one way to find out though :naughty:

Yeah, I was going to just use gasket tape around the top, but completely forgot about the port blocking the subs ::DUH::

If I need to get to the subs, I'll just cut around the port with my flush bit and then rabbet the new opening and make a new baffle/port to drop in there...

I think though that since I know I like the setup, I'm going to rebuild it out of birch and make the port out of plexi, and maybe the baffles for the sub as well so it looks like they're floating in the box :)
