Build pics coming tonight, but for now, heres an Idea of what it looks like

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/bonesninjamodel2.jpg

I love working with 13 ply birch...its so much less messy, and it actually looks so much better than MDF. It has a wierd sweet smell when you cut it though.

thats all for now........

heres this

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/build001.jpg

most of the 18 pieces needed for this project. but in the end, its well worth it.

a Close up of a thin strip left so you can sount the many many layers. Top and bottom layer are uber thin. thohttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/build002.jpg

Looks sick!!! Can't wait to see a finished project. I've been thinking about trying a viner (sp) type plywood build. Maybe some cabinet grade wood for the next build...

Keep the work and pics a coming!!

such a low tuning, not many options.

no center divider, but there is a center brace that goes back 2 inches to add a little support for the front.

now that the owner has posted, its time for me to post more pics.

Whats the pros and cons on using 13 ply? nice design. How much port area?

Birch is stronger and lighter but costs twice as much as MDF.

iamamp3pimp
11-11-2006, 09:16 PM
yup

its easier to work with minus the splinters though :(

but its got 40 square inches.

time to get some build pics up.......now only if photobucket was easy...

Birch is stronger and lighter but costs twice as much as MDF.

also, it's extremely nice to work with if you have plans to finish your box without carpeting. MDF is extremely hungry and eats paint like its going out of style

im loving photobucket...i use flock. i was kidding about the difficulty, and i get to keep my album.

anyway here we go....just a few build pics....

or if you know me, a few is never enough,

heres the guide that i been using, and its for sale because i made my own.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/build004.jpg

and a little something else here

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/100_2566.jpg

how i was originally going to do this port, but it proved to be much more difficult, and i had to take it apart before the glue dried.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d177/iamamp3pimp/Worklogs/Bonesninja/100_2569.jpg

that is the inside (port side) poece, with a port wall attached to it. i am glad that i changed it up, as it becme much easier.

just a mockup of the port insanity

and actually getting the first piece on.

is the dual port thing just for looks? because if not you could've made a smaller single port and saved a lot of internal space with lower vent velocities...

still though, it looks like quality wood work...

bonesninja
11-11-2006, 10:08 PM
its quite pimp the way it is because each port will be firing directly through the ports in my rear deck. this is mostly an SQ set-up by the way

build looks good.

iamamp3pimp
11-11-2006, 10:17 PM
and that kid bob, i looked ino it, because a single port would have been much easier, but im only losing a few cubic inches by doing it this way, so its really not going to make a difference. as far as the sound goes, it ont affect it at all.

to put this in perspective.....this box is going to sit up on the area where there is no carpet near the top of the photo. That area sits 5" above the floor of my trunk.
The rest of the trunk floor will be a false floor with the amps mounted below with plexi windows and some cool led lighting for the night show. On either side of the trunk, behind the wheel wells, there will be an extra battery. The batts will be hidden from view and the trunk will be nicely panelled up, alot like the Sound Werks Grand National

thats why I use Baltic Birch Ply its 90 a sheet but cuts to a perfect edge everytime and its ridiculously strong. plus the employee discount at the lumberyard helps:D

How many router bits do you go through running it over the srews all the time (I have seen that on a few of your builds)?

Very nice build and I love the way that cabinet grade Birch looks. Now put a light stain on it and be done w/ it!

where i go at lowes they just got self checkouts and the 3/4" mdf switch to cheap **** i forgot what it was but i got a sheet of mdf for 10 bucks then my friend went to do the same thing and they took it out of the self checkout system so he went to an old lady and she rang it up for the cheap **** because old ladies + wood = dumb *****es lol

Big Dee
11-13-2006, 08:33 PM
At the lowes around here, you could do that easily. The guys/girls at the wood checkout usually don't know crap, they just scan whatever's there and ring it up.

I would never do that of course... :sneaky:

PhatTonyDeMarco
11-13-2006, 08:36 PM
I do self checkout every time I buy MDF. Of course, I have them cut the wood for me, so it is easy to scan a small piece with the barcode on it; I assume you wouldn't be able to with the entire 4 x 8 sheet...

baseballer1100
11-13-2006, 08:36 PM
The self checkout thing works!!! I got a whole piece of MDF up on the scanner and slid it across it was easy too.
