If you...

- had 120Wx2 @ 4 ohms
- used sealed doorpods
- listened to rock, jazz, orchestral, with a focus on a confident lower end without compromising upper midrange
- needed to stay under $100 per driver

What would you choose?

I have space for 8's but I'm not entirely sure I want to go that route...

Seas P18RNX/P (http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=9576587.558&pid=2127)
Peerless Exclusive 830883 (http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=9576587.558&pid=1949)

Those two are looking tempting. Would I regret going with a 7" instead of the larger driver?

Kicker SS midbass 6.5's or 8" would be a nice option for you to look at.

whats your goal? 2 way or 3 way up front?

you would not regret going with a 7" over and 8" as long as the 7 is built to handle the power and the lower freqs. I have 7" and have not regretted it. The Seas would be a good choice. I here the scan's play very well when sealed. I have never heard them.

Stick with a 7" if you're going 2way.

Honestly I don't think you will be able to get enough air space in a sealed door pod for an 8. You will probably have to go IB. Even with a 7 for that matter.

.25cubes sealed for a 7? Would be easy.

Nevermid, I see. Wish my 8's would go in a small sealed enclosure

IDQ 8s :)

IDQ 8s :)

Good luck finding them. They'll only go to about 1-1.2kHz before breaking up.

Like I said, stick to 7" if you're going 2way... or 8's + horns.

I've got some n the closet right now...dual 4s. 8's + horns FTW. Especially powered by PPI Arts :)

I enjoy my Dayton Reference 7" woofers, but you could probably do a little better in your budget.

Hooked them up to the HT just to make sure they worked. I've been collecting all my gear for a while. Just missing a Xover and a EQ, but currently have a shortage of funds. I should have not switched sub setups so many times.

That would be on the top end of my budget...small enough they could fit IB in the doors, even.

I've always liked Morels. I used to run the Hybrids n a HT setup. Always wanted to try them n the car, and they were n my top 5 b4 I found my IDQs

Zaph's review of the P18RNX has me considering that one a lot, I want something with a solid low end...now I just need someone that's heard both the Morels and the Seas :(

Some others I researched. As much as I liked the Alum cone Seas, ID told me to run a paper or poly cone with my horns. The Vifas r great cause they're 4ohm...which is definatly a plus for a car app.

My vote for Seas G18RNX or Peerless Exclusive 7.....Scan Speak Revelator if you have the budget. From what I have read the P18RNX was thought to have a cold, hollow sound compared to the other cone materials. Sorry no personal experience but gathered from what I have read in my search for my own active 2-way frontstage.

a lot of the low-end extension has to do with the install, which should be common knowledge.
