These seem to be really popular among members here...

I want to feed a set of components 60-70W RMS X2, or I have an amp that will give a set 150W RMS X2 so I was thinking A/D/S, or maybe a set of CDT's. I want my rock/metal tracks to be able to be cranked up to a pretty loud level without the speakers giving out.

Any suggestions for the best brand suited for these types of music?

Thanks springy! Do you have a link to a seller who sells the Rainbow line, or a link with more information on them? I've searched Ebay and Google, and can't seem to find anything.

Anyone think the Rainbow line would be better suited for rock/techno over A/D/S or CDT's?

i am using the Cl line that is lower series then those fiberglass ones you linked and they sound wonderful. i listen to all kinds of music from hiphop to metal to trance and they are very detailed and natural sounding, again i am using the entry level cdt's so those should sound even better. IMO id go for the FG's

Found em, springy....

For $300, though, I might save a $100 and go with the CDTs if the sound quality isn't that much different. The A/D/S set I'm looking at is for sale on Ebay for $136, and he says the same set retails for $500 in stores.....I'm just a little leary of such a great deal.

contact 6spdcoupe about rainbows.. they won't be 300. if you go CDT i say try to get your hands on the EF line, they are in your price range (give or take some); contact alteraudiouda or djdilliodon for cdt's.

Thanks jacka. Which component line puts out a better more powerful, balanced sound? The Rainbows or the CDT's? And which tweeter would you say is still crisp, but a little less harsh of the two?

you can do a search and come up a decent idea on here. slc's and ef's have been discussed here and there.

I'm an avid rock/metal listener. I found the Focal K2P series do very nice. Although they do have a metal tweeter but it is much better than the MB Quart tweeter. I've heard the Rainbow SLC line and they sounded a bit muddy less detailed in comparison to the Focal. Haven't heard CDT but hear good things about them. A/D/S was a bit dull for rock/metal IMO. The Boston Acoustic Pros are also great but can sound thin at times but they get pretty loud. Image Dynamics Chameleons have the dynamics of the Focals but smoother highs, probably what you're looking for. Everyone has different tastes. Above all, I recommend auditioning to see what you like best.

CDT is a good choice but I find there tweets lacking and 2 laid back for me, I 2nd the Rainbow or my personal set, the Crystal SSCS6.

CDTs are more laidback, with a smooth midbass. Rainbows are what you are looking for...

With 70x2rms not many will believe me saying this cause im not to fond of the brand but the DLS ms6 is a def winner. Great set with moderate to low power. Decent midbass output but the set shines in the midrange and top end. Very well balanced set and is great with all music types. You should be able to score a set for around $225 or less. With 150x2rms the cdt EF series is also another great set. Midbass is decent midrange is comparable to the ms6 and so is the tweeters. Will come down to personal preference between the 2 sets. You can get these for around $200. The only time i have heard the rainbows was in a friends truck and they sounded exactly the way computerparts described. I guess we both like the added detail of a metal dome :) I have seen a few reviews in mags of the rainbow sets of course they are all mags from europe which i have either gotten from cdt or back in the day from dls when i use to deal them. If your interested give me your email addy and i can send you scans of reviews of the dls, cdt cl , and slc all compared to each other.

I'll urge you again, before you buy anything, visit Mark Brooks' shop. He carries Arc (Arc was once Rainbow's U.S. distributor and the ACS components were once made by Rainbow and are still virtually identical to them) and is a big DLS dealer. When I visited his shop, his prices on DLS undercut anything that any online dealer could manage. He's a very honest and knowledgeable guy and is one of the best, if not the best, installers in Miami. All of his gear is top-notch as well.

Before you buy something you don't like, I'd urge you to visit his shop and do some hands-on listening.

Here's an example of his work, a car he did for Vince Wilfork of the New England Patriots:

Also, Cartronics is an a/d/s dealer and has the 3-series on display at most locations:

I use to have the CDT 61CL series in some well made kicks. I listen to a lot of rock, tech-house, dark house, trance, and some hip-hop. They are very smooth and the tweet is perfect for me. I don't like bright tweets at all. I find I could really crank up the CDT's without causing my ears to bleed. I really liked their warmth and detail and the midbass response was excellent for $130 pair of components.

Components are really tough to pick out with out hearing them. They are much more prone to subjectivity than subs IMO. But I have to give a thumbs up to CDTs.

I whould recommend the A/D/S/ 346cs thats been selling like crazy on ebay. They dropped the price which was originally $500 retail. They are a great set for what your looking for.

The other option i whould recommend if you have the extra money is go with the CDT EF series components and get them thru djdillioon or alteraudio which are both authorized dealers online that will save you more money then others.

I personally run the CDT HD62 set and find them to be perfect for me. They are the best set i have heard.

p.s. I couldnt resist the A/D/S/ deal so i bought a set from the12vkings on ebay !

So these are the **** huh?

Currently have a set of CDT CL-61a's I bought a while back for about $130. Am I to assume these would be a noticable step up?

My rear stage is a set of Boston SL60's. Boy those things ****. 110w+80hz=Popcorn. Got them set at 125, and they sound decent for rear fill, thats about it.

Man, thanks for all of the great replies, fellas! It looks like I'm either going to go with a set of the CDT EF's or the A/D/S 346 cs sets.

The MB Quart set that I have now is awesome (Q 218.13CX), but I believe that one of my midbass woofers is either blown or is on the verge of blowing. I can hear a distinct rattle/buzzing noise coming from the passenger side speaker, and I definitely don't hear it coming from the driver's side door. That really *****, too, because they really crank being run from a JL 300/4.

If I get the A/D/S or the CDT EF set, I'll be running those from an oldschool Soundstream 644s 4 channel amp.....if you're looking for a slightly used JL 300/4, I'll have one available for sale soon!

Go to ebay & pick a pair of JL XR's you will not be disapointed. Good speaker & can get at good price.
