View Full Version : older alpine issues

Hi everyone

I bought a 92 Toyota Camry in July with an Alpine CDA-7875 head unit. It is older, yes, but really I can't afford to replace it right now. My issue is this: it has a motorized face plate. When you go to open the face plate (by pressing eject button) it works just fine. Switching to CD mode you get an error message. You can't insert a disc either, and there does not appear to be anything else in there. Also, once the face plate has been "opened", it will not close again unless you actually manipulate it manually.

Has anyone heard of someone having these problems before? If so, could you advise me on how to proceed here? If it means just breaking down and buying a new receiver, fine, I guess I'll have to do it eventually.........

Thanks...

Welcome to the forum.
I have one of those as well that I picked up at a garage sale for $20 but fortunately it doesn't have any of the mechanical issues you're describing (it has cosmetic issues, though)

I would say likely your best bet will be to bite the bullet and just get a new HU.
That is an older Alpine with no compressed music file playback capability and likely wouldn't really be worth the expense to fix it (IMO)

Thanks for the honest answer!

I figured I was probably about due anyway. I love the power behind this unit, but the issues are really restricting the versatility I would get with a new one.

Any suggestions? I'm not looking to drop lots of $$$, but I don't want the $100 wal-mart special anyway. I was looking at a JVC with integrated iPod support and a CD player. It was listed at $189 last I checked.

 Scavengers! Scavengers ALL of you!

If you do consider parting out the deck I'd be interested in buying the faceplate off of you if it's in good shape...
