speaker diam and box height ok to be the same?

Never built my own box before so this may be a silly question.


Is it OK for the overall diam of a sub and the height of a box to be the same?

For example, would it be a bad idea to try to put a sub with these requirements in this box?

overall diam = 14 in
bolt hole circle = 12.7 in

I know I would just be screwing the box into the outer walls as well as the front. I ask because this is the only plan I can find that I trust that works with my desired tuning and sub and I would hate to build it only to find out it was doomed from the start.

You might be able to place the sub to where the screws dont hit the "outer walls" I think snoopdan did this.

Good Idea. Looks like he has 8 screw holes versus my 12 though. I don't have the sub here yet so I can't check if it will work....it should.

youll be fine as long as the absket doesnt hit the top and bottom walls. I have screwed into the side or top of a box before, it works fine.

I'd make it so the baffel was outside all the other walls, rather than inside them...

rather than having the front of the box fit within the side and top, cos if its inside the top and bottom, when you cut out the sub hole, you'll be getting the front in half basically :p:

the cutting list for the plans you posted has the baffel inside the top and bottom I do believe.

also, make sure that the subwoofer cutout is less than 12.5inches in your case...
