Well today I picked up some 90 degree clamps, 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF, glue, screws the usual.

I want to build a box for my up and coming 12" Audioque HD3.

I like the LOW's and am wondering what a good size box is. Need to know tuning (thinking 33hz) and how much port area is needed.

Max Height: 14'' (want box to be 14" high in any design)

Max Width: 33" (doesn't have to be 33" wide)

Max Depth: 60"

Looking at a slot port design, also Double Baffle.

Wondering if someone could design me one, or just give me dimensions. I'm really busy right now, so I'm just wondering if someone could throw something together, because I know you like doing this :D  . I was thinking maybe 3cuft after port and driver tuned to like 33hz.

Thanks guys!

audioque plays a lot lower than tuning. they recommend 40hz, or like 35-36 for more sq. I was told not to tune it to lower than 35, but thats just me

Yes, it seems lots of people have them tuned >35hz

i would tune it at 38hz-40hz.

here's a site you should check out: http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

Tune 40hz, 16 sq in of port per cubic foot. Oh yeah, I'd say do 2.5 ft3 or ask dleccord, he has an HD312 as well . . .

yupp he's right. their suspension is strong. i had this in 4 cubes and it played very low for it tuning. no sweat there.

So it does play lower than the tuning of the box?

If it was tuned to 38hz, it would have nice 30hz and lower lows?

Well I just realized that a BTL 12" is the same price shipped as an Audioque 12" HD3.

Hard choice, what do you guys think?

search and you will find free plans posted on the internets. Not specificlly designed for your driver but they will work. :)

Now looking into a AQ Hd3, FI BTL, or FI Q. I want a LOUD driver, but with the SQ still there. I have a L7 right now, and it's no SQL sub really. I will be powering with the bxi 1500d @ 1ohm, in the proper sized box. Which is the best out of the 3 for a LOUD SQL driver?

I have a 3d designed box coming, but this is what I made up quickly.

Does it look alright? Im not sure of the XMAX of the driver. AQ says useable throw is 63.5 mm, so thats what I put for XMAX on this one.

http://subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=32&Eh=14&Dia=6&Xmax=63.5&Vd=.19&NumW=1&Vb=3.2&Fb=35&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

It doesn't look right at all. IDK whats right, can an HD3 owner tell me the XMAX? Is Useable throw the same as XMAX?

Useable Throw is 2.5"

Whatever that means, lol.

31.75mm XMAX is what I found.

On 1500Watts you are better off with a AQ or a FI Q Not a BTL, according to the 12" Test the BTL is not efficient.

And that's why I am going with the AQ, very efficient driver from what I hear.

icewall on ROE tuned his to 30hz and says it SLAMS.

^what's the specs on his box?

EDIT: i had mines in a 32hz box, it slammed but not as hard as my other higher tuned boxes.

Yea, I know.

Tune Higher You Think?

I love the lows, I don't think the Sub will be strong in those lows if I tune it to 40hz.

The last box i had my origonal HD 12''s in was around 4.5 cubes tuned to 33hz and it got brutal. It did around a 143 with 1500 watts to the pair at 33 hz, and bass raced like 136ish

I guess i didnt take any pics of it in the truck, but heres a pic of the box

I got the final design of the box.

Done, Done and DONE!

Would a small 45 degree angle in ever corner (even port) affect anything (especially in the port)?

Is that XMAX?

No. Not even close actually. I think the Xmax on HD3s is something like 13mm but I may be wrong. Xmax does NOT determine how far the driver can safely move one way.

Reduces port noise, but if you have a big enough port, you won't need it. It also helps when competing, might give you a few tenths.

I have the same driver, but it's a 15". TUNE TO 40HZ! It gives the best "blend" I guess you could say. If you tune lower, like 32, you'll miss out on the higher notes around 50hz. 40hz seems to be the sweet spot, I've gotten the best response from that. Also keep in mind that these drivers will PEAK below tuning (at least mine does). Tuning to 40hz should allow you to safely play the low 30hz range.

Hd3's are kick @ss for daily and spl use. as far as excursion just check my vids out on roe ;) They are hard to beat, im running 9+kwrms for burps and around 2-4kwrms daily depends on what song is playing :D Audioque FTW!!! Tune it to what DJ recommends and use his internal cub ft before displacements and there ya go :) oh btw, they due play a little lower than what its tuned too :D
