I absolutely love this thing! I just got my x890 installed with some alpine coaxial speakers.. I know, the speakers aren't that great, but it sounds incredible! I'm so glad I chose the Kenwood, it's the best sounding system I've had in any of my cars so far. I spent about an hour tweaking the settings. I didn't really think the menus were all that difficult to navigate, as I've heard from some. Regardless, I love everything about this unit so far, it's amazing! Thanks to all that recommended it in my other thread.

Congrats on the new piece of equipment, im happy that you like it so much :)

do you have the speakers amped, or just running off of the head unit? My friends running his alpine type-s coaxs off of his head unit too, but it has next to no output only getting at max 18 RMS... but hes happy with it so I guess thats all that matters, right?

I paid 272 at onlinecarstereo.com, I'm sure you could find them for less. I am not running it amped, the power output is fine for me, I don't listen to music till my ears bleed, and the sound is extremely clean and detailed even at higher volume levels, though since the speakers are new, I don't want to abuse them too much until they're broken in, so I haven't turned it up a lot yet.

Thats awesome! The Excelone line have fabulous sound quality. I have been saying that on this forum all year long. I don't have that model, but I am just about as happy with mine as you are. I really wish I could have gotten in on the 25th anniversery edition, but I just didn't have the money at that time. If you put a mp to them speakers though you would be even more impressed, not for volume puposes, just for the detailed clarity. Hope you continue to enjoy that sweet head unit of yours. :)

the menus aren't necessarily difficult to navigate, it's just that kenwood doesn't go into detail explaining them, or what each function does, exactly.

glad you're getting the hang of it, tho. they ARE very very nice sounding decks. :)

x2, I dont like their manual, and it took time to understand all the options and go through them...but after a while, its a reflex.

i think the spotty manual just adds to the excitement of getting it hooked up and getting to play with it.......

makes those days (or in my case months) between when you get your deck, and when you finally have it installed that much more exciting.

The menus are easy, I didn't even read the manual.

I hope you bought this deck to use the USB. If you haven't tried it yet, USE IT!! It makes things so much easier with no CDs to carry around anymore.

Do yourself a favor and throw the user's guide away, it's beyond worthless. I love my Excelon, but you gotta learn it by the seat of your pants.

a lot of money? that's cheap. I paid more than that for my Excelon KDC-589.

And I don't understand how speakers running off headunit power can sound like ***. I have some 5.25" coax speakers that are amplified 100x2 and it's clean/loud but doesn't sound like ***.

I've got the xxv-01D. I disagree that it sounds like *** but that is because it IS ***. I love my hu and didn't think the manual was too bad.

I love how mine sounds... I just hate functionalty of it. It acts up from time to time. Not spitting out cds, screen blinking, ect.

i got the x790 and outta curiousity, when does clipping start on this deck? (prolly the same with the x890) the volume turns to red at volume 10/35, but listening volumes are more like 22/35 even with the windows up...more of a caution thing more than anything

I go up to 30/35. I also did a quick test to see if I was clipping the signal and if it had any effect on my score. I burped on the 30/35 volume,+0 Sub level, with the gain set with a DMM. Then I turned it down to 20/35, +15 subwoofer level, set gain with DMM, did another burp - exactly the same.

I have had mine 29/35 but at that level it is insane loud. As far as I know I have never went into clipping. I do know that I can turn it up to 3/4 volume without fear of clipping or anything else.

does the sub out clip if you had the sub at +15 and the volume was at 32/35?

It most definetely would. When I go to do a burp, I set the volume at 30/35 and sub at +9. I'm sure it's clipping, but that's when the score stops getting higher so meh. . .

max mine goes to is 26/35
If I were to burp it would be at volume 26 and bass + 9

regular music listening i keep it at 25-26/35 and bass -3 to 0

With the software that the higher-end eXcelons are coming with nowadays you can make it do that if you choose (on compressed music files at any rate) :fyi: ;)

I have a an older Excelon deck.....When it went in for repair I bought a pioneer 7800. But after ol'faithfull came out of the repair shop it went straight back in my car. It's ease of use, and performance was leaps and bounds above the pioneer IMO.

I listen to it with the NF at +3 and volume between 23-28/35 with the bass flat.

your speaker wires are probably grounding out somewhere

and if you have it hooked up to stock speakers, they're probably a funky impedance

lots of factory speakers have very low impedance.....

i think the factory speakers in my vw were 1.8 or something like that....

chub8989
11-02-2006, 08:58 PM
i dont have factory speakers.

heyman421
11-02-2006, 09:00 PM
well, unhook your speakers from the deck and see if it still goes into protect

good place to start

heyman421

get the head unit fixed, cause it's got a bad channel, apparently

heyman421
11-02-2006, 09:06 PM
if you got it from an authorized retailer, kenwood will actually pay for it to be fixed locally, they have one of the best warranties around

if you got it from an unauthorized seller, you're on your own.

my xxv-02A amplifier was dead out of the box, and it only cost about $100 to have a channel replaced, and worked great after that
