A secret to successful car audio systems is of course your subwoofer, or foundation. Understanding that a car is not a living room, but rather a box is the first step to understanding cabin gain. When you put a box in a car, you are actually putting a box inside a bigger box, thus creating additional orders. Because of this reactive capacitance all around your box, having two 12" woofers openly firing into this situation is usually asking for all kinds of performance variables. This is the reason why one enclosure will sound good in one car, and terrible in another.

We have determined that to minimize these loading problems, and to allow an enclosure to breath freely, it must be consistent with a small box to room ratio of less than 15%. It is also desirable to control the air space in front of the woofer by removing the capacitance created by flexing metal in your trunk. This is why we chose a band pass design to begin with.

I don't know if this is quoted somewhere or what, but what they mean by that is: The subs will preform similarily in different vehicles using the same box?

10-30-2006, 07:15 PM
more pics tommorow guys i might throw a SX 15 in there just to see how it sounds i dont know we will see........... u have to but the pin in through the bottom of the jasper jib for circles under 7"

80INCHES
10-30-2006, 09:01 PM
dont expect the same results
u throw a sx15 in there it will be loud but i'm 2 not happy about a 37hz -3db rolloff
that box was for a 06 xxx15 so the rolloff will be at -3db at 20hz
so wat u hear when the sx15 is in there will not be the same when the xxx15 is in there

box sounded like ***.. no output what so ever... i think the box gave the sub a huge impedence rise

rpfuror
02-07-2007, 09:08 AM
Seriously? What was the passband on the box? Short of the external ports (which I personally don’t like) it looked like a solid design.

Impedance rise does not mean you will have less output. At the point of a high impedance, the enclosure will be most efficient meaning that it will require less power to be just as loud. Power does not mean loud.

lol, owned.

Looks like some crappy work has been coming out of some overpraised names as of late ;) Not saying any names :p:

That wouldn't be the first time 80inches has screwed up (well, or his program that he uses/relys on/would be useless without).
