Thinking of building a box for my 2 mtx thunder6000 12's
Ported (not sure of the desing)

Just one Q:
How do you tune a port to 32Hz?????

Or could i just port a 3.4 cu ft total(2 chambers)??

and, is it a good idea to downfire the box(it sits about 5" off the floor) so just turn it upside down and put the ports on top(the exact opposite wall of the subs)

If yo have ever seen the back 'seat' of the 90' for ranger ext. cab, youll know what im talking about :)

Im going to make complicated box to fit around the little curb thingy on the floor to the back wall.

---to make it short, how long does a port need to be: Tuned to around 32Hz???????? :confused:

Ok! new design....

Subs fire front, so do the ports.
No idea what the vol.

Heres the dims.:
Front view:
40" wide
20" Tall (about the size of the 3/4" PLYWOOD(yup, plywood!)
15" Deep
All Dims. estimated at the moment.

Side Dims.:
kind of hard to describe:
Too hard to describe! :(

Just tell me how to tune a port to 32Hz (4" ports) or should go vented, and what size vent(s) to tune 32Hz

use the equations jmac was so nice to provide to calulcate port length:
For a rectangular box ...
H = Height
W = Width
D = Depth
C = Thickness of MDF, fibreglass, or whatever the box is made of
V = Volume
P = Pi
R = Radius
S = Speaker displacement
Vport = port volume
Vslot = extra displacement of material used to create slot port
Vbrace = displacement of braces used

(H - 2C)(W - 2C)(D - 2C) - S - Vport - Vslot - Vbrace = Vbox
P*R^2 = Port Area of a circular port
Hport*Wport = Port area of a slot/rectangular port
P*R^2*Dport = Port volume of a circular port
Hport*Wport*Dport = Port volume of a slot/rectangular port
Hport*C*Dport = Added displacement of slot port if wall is used as one of the sides of the port.
Hport*2C*Dport = Added displacement of slot port if wall is not used as one of the sides of the port.

one thing i know you want to void making a slot port with a ratio of h:w of more than 9:1....something about frication comeing into play then....hey and theres no need to act like a 13 year old and quote this 20 times please. :)

I would get a 5 1/4 component set to go in those locations. That will give you a much better sound;)
