Im ready to get the grand am going again.. I just need some opinions on how to get the crease dent out of it so i can at least get the windshield in before it gets soaked iinside.. The only problem is that theres about a 4" wide crossmember across the front of the skin.. so its nearly impossible to pound it out from the bottom

My car kinda looked like that before. My ********* friend jumped onto my car while I was driving. Luckily he only broke a couple ribs, because I sure as hell felt like running his *** over for good after he did that.

depends, if i was going to do it, i would drop the headliner, tap out whatever i could, then i would go with the stinger method, gas welding rod and just weld 15-30 dollies on there and just pull n tap, and then grind the metal until it heats up enough the it will heat most of it out...how are you going to fix it? i dont know, depends on if u feel like painting it...

naa it was a deer.. The pillars are fine just the dent .. It wouldnt be tough if the crossmember didnt go all the way across the roofskin on the inside,,, Theres just no way to get anything in there the member looks like a U .. Also kind of like a sound channel.. Its welded to the skin on both ends of it and the wide part in the middle is a 1/2 down or so

Im not much of a welder, and my buddys gonna sand/ Paint the whole car for 500+ paint.. Which will be good enough.. Not that he doesnt to very good work.. its just not worth a $2k paint job for what im going to be using it for

u dont have to be a welder. just have to make sure the dollies are secure to the panel and then pull them up, then tap down, pull/tap, it'll take u an hour or so..no big deal....and oh my god who buys a new car for a dent?

what about some 4x8s on the floor and another 4x8 on a jack, and jack the crossmember back up?

The crossmember isnt bent... Its not flush with the skin its about a good 3/4 inch down from the skin ( for strength ) if i jacked it up all that would happen is i would bend the **** outta the member and push it flat to the skin.. Then my headliner would prolly not fit right either

i would grind that metal down and let it get good and hot, then let it set and see how much of it comes out first, then u can decide what to do...and i think that the best way is stinging, or u could just pop it and pull it out and then fill the holes

im gonna do everything i can with what i have tomorrow, to get the dent out.. Then sand and bond that spot.. Put windshield in and be ready for paint.. Like i said the car still l okes pretty good inside and out, and will more than likely look better than 90% of the spl cars ive seen at shows:)

Hes sanding the whole thing down patching a bad spot and putting a few coats of clear on.. Maybe it was 500 period.. He a friend through a good friend .. He threw out 500 without seeing the car yet.. so as soon as i get a windshield and get **** worked out i should be good to go..

Man that car is fuxored in that pic and 6 deer??? That would ****, I might just move because of that ****.

Also 500 bucks to have a friend paint your ride isnt all that bad. If he is shooting clear plus paint, then not to shabby if he does decent work. Good luck!

Oh yeah, what happened to the Civc idea?

why do i have to be retarded? f*ckin internet message boards i tell you...

this guy is saying you cant heat flat panels (which isnt even 100% accurate), because of stretching im assuming...but as long as you dont heat anymore than necessary and when i say heat im not talking about red hot here, you should be fine. and nowadays u cant heat metal like we used to back when i first started in the industry, afterall the metal today is HSLA (high strength, low alloy) and if it gets too hot it will crystalize and then essentially snap in two...if u take a gringing wheel and work it nice and easy in 2 or 3 phases across the crown where the damage is at, alot of that outer layer will fold back up...i guess i should have said warm instead of hot and i should also warn u that u can grind a hole in your panel too, but i kinda figured u wouldnt be doing it my way to to begine with...either way...like this guy said ur better off not listening to me, its not like i get paid to do this or anything...

Thanks man, the Si is still on my mind but at this point i want to sell my diamante first.. Its on carsoup and auto trader, And this guy from longwood industries keeps calling me, I guess there company searches nationwide for ppl looking for your specific type of car.. He said its $89 and is guaranteedto sell, So i might also do that, since ive only got 3 calls/emails on mine so far after a few weeks: :( I just dont have the funds to take a $2500 hit n my car.. NADA books AVG retail @ 10,700 .. Im asking 8400.( what I owe ). Dealer wanted to give me 6000

And even if it did sell through one of the places its listed the si is more a reality in the spring time.. For 2 reasons

I can finally get the motivation to fully fix the grand am for my winter/mileage car and hopefully have it ready to go for the 2007 dbdrag season

I dont want to drive a brand new car through a northern minnesota winter... Tons of snow /salt/dirt etc.. And ity will also give me a few months to save some more $ for a Down payment
